I talked to Sally Pinckney today and will be attending her meeting on Wednesday at 6pm. She is working to save the children's play equipment currently at the Daley Bi Plaza playground.
Sally's letter was forwarded by a 400 Randolph resident:
Everyone, I wanted to pass on information regarding a meeting taking place next week, where the parents in the neighborhood are trying to save the current park equipment, to move it to a new, close location when the roof of the parking garage is worked on near our building, beneath the playground. Here is the info regarding the meeting, if anyone is interested. I'm not sure if anything can be saved or done, but there are so many families in the neighborhood now that utilize that equipment, and there are hopes that we can re-purpose that equipment in another area close to us, as that equipment is far more versatile and more appropriate for children over the age of 3 (the Lakeshore East park only contains equipment truly appropriate for the littlest ones). This meeting is being arranged by Sally, a mother who lives in the Buckingham...here is the info:
Dear Daley Bi Friends,
A meeting has been set for April 25th at 6pm at the Daley Bi Field house! Yay! I have invited the President of the Chicago Park District and have confirmed that someone in charge of programming will be there to address us on solutions for programming while the construction around Daley Bi is occurring. Bob O'Neill will also be there to discuss the Grant Park changes and what to do as alternative since the park will be torn down (some possible solutions are changing Lakeshore East Park so that children of a variety of ages can have more appropriate equipment to play on). I did reach out to Alderman Reilly and also Mayor Emanuel (long shot) and invited both to the meeting. I have heard back from an Alderman Reilly staff member and she said they would pass along the info and were not sure if he would be able to attend....
I know we are all upset about so many changes to "our" park that we spend so much time at. I am hoping this meeting will be productive and help move a solution along in both areas!
Please come that evening and voice your wishes~I am hoping we have a huge turn out so that they will be sure to know that a lot of us are concerned and want a resolution to these important problems!
Please pass this along to as many people as possible. I will also brainstorm on ways to get this passed on to even more than just through email. A lot of you had some great ideas and ways to do this and I would love the help!
