This year, I participated in two public demonstrations (along with other Minnesota activist organizations) against United Healthcare in suburban Minneapolis.  These were organized by the national group People’s Action.  People’s Action continues to lift up those who are denied care by “insurers” and a Minnesota teacher is one of the recent victims in need of support.  I signed the petition to support her.  Read details below.

Subject: Stand with Robin Ginkel

Robin’s doctors can stop her pain—but a greedy corporation is standing in their way.

Demand United Health Give Robin Care

Diane J. — We all dream of loving what we do to make a living, and Robin Ginkel does! She's an educator in Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) in Minnesota, and her employer-provided health insurance company is keeping her from that work. Not only are they denying the care prescribed by her doctors— they're denying young children and their families the support and guidance of a beloved teacher. We should all be able to get the care our doctors prescribe without a greedy private corporation getting in the way.

Two years ago, Teacher Robin injured her back while assisting a student. Since then, she has endured not only horrible pain but also a gauntlet of denials and appeals, including an external review and the Department of Commerce.

There’s a proven and standard surgery that Robin's doctors believe can solve her pain. By denying this surgery, UnitedHealthcare has put Robin in danger of permanent damage that could be irreparable. That ain’t right.

UnitedHealthcare's parent company made more than $20 billion in 2022 alone. They can afford to pay for the care Robin’s doctors say she needs. Robin wants to be off pain meds, free of pain, and back in the classroom full-time.

We live in the richest country in the history of the world. There’s enough for everyone to get the care they need — but greedy corporations like UnitedHealthcare are getting in the way. Sign our petition to tell UnitedHealthcare to cover the care of people like Robin.
