Bonn. The Catholic relief organizations in Germany increased their international commitment last year. According to the annual report of the world church for 2021, the aid organizations spent 10 million euros more than they earned. This way, the Church supported projects worldwide with a total of 653 million euros. Four years ago, the expenditure was still 614 million euros. The money comes mainly from donations, collections and church tax funds, in the case of development projects and emergency and disaster relief also from state sources. The projects support development, mission, peace and refugee work. Africa with 148 million euros in aid money and Latin America with 128 million euros in the previous year are the focal points of the church's project work. Bishop Bertram Meier, 62, is responsible for the annual report on behalf of the German Bishops' Conference. "Against all calamity, Christians set God's promise of salvation and stood by the side of the oppressed," writes Bishop Bertram in the foreword.

Okay, well it would be interesting to have a look at the projects being supported and any attempt to measure their effectiveness.
