It’s time to part ways with my beloved Rawland Stag. I rode Paris-Brest-Paris on this bike in 2015, and we’ve been on thousands of miles of other adventures together over the past few years. I’m sure I don’t need to say much about the Stag to the readers of this list as there have been numerous reviews posted here. As you all know, the Stag is one of the best deals going for entry into the world of 650b, low trail and light tubing.

Mine has spent most of its life set up as a randonneur, but it’s currently in more of a stripped down, rough-stuff, adventure mode with a Shimergo 8 speed drivetrain and Switchback Hill tires. The frame has a few minor scratches and scuff marks, but no dents, cracks or rust. The tires have a couple thousand miles of use, but there’s still quite a bit of life in them. They’ve been set up tubeless in the past, but they’re currently with tubes.

One issue to be aware of: I drilled a hole on the underside of the down tube near the head tube and another on the back of the bottom bracket shell. This was to internally route a tail light wire from the generator hub when the bike was in rando mode. It’s had these holes for its entire life without any issues. I realize some of you will see this as a liability while others will see it as an asset. The wire is still in place, so if you’re one of those who sees this as an asset, you can use the wire to fish through a new one. The holes have been de-burred to reduce risk of cracking and so they don’t chafe through the wire. There's usually a piece of electrical tape over the top hole to keep water out. I’ve done this with other bikes and I’ve never experienced any problems, but I’m sure there are those who believe that drilling a hole in a frame is asking for trouble, and it will explode at any moment. You decide. I just want to be totally transparent about this.

Fabulous bike and great price, wish it was closer to me than the ENTIRE WIDTH OF THE PACIFIC OCEAN.

Another comment from AU!

Andrew D or Stephen, look at it this way. It’d cost you AUD800 on top of the price to get it here. Freight within US to forwarder, forwarder, GST, stamp duty, 4% PayPal, etc. Cheapest return tickets to SF (nearer to the bike than LA or Santiago for cross-Pacific flights) are AUD1127 (plus the bike on the way back). BQ unmeeting is in a couple of weeks. Is a plan forming in your head yet?

Too bad this is a Medium.  I had a Large Stag and sold it.  Would like to have one again.

I’m going to Seattle for work tomorrow and it’s so tempting to ride this home. Nice deal. I’m surprised this isn’t sold already.

Yes, it’d have been a tough sell with my domestic government too!

That's beautiful. I'm looking for a Stag in 58cm. I love my Nordavinden, and regret not ordering a Stag frameset when both were on sale.

Add me to the list looking for a large. I already have one, but I haven't found anything as good for the money since. I got a cSogn for winter rides, but it's just not the same. I had nearly spent big bucks on a Boulder (guess that's no more) or a Box Dog (site exists, but no buying info) and I'm not sure there's any other 650b, low trail, non-disc options out there anymore.

Before anyone buys airplane tickets I should mention that I have an interested buyer. The deal isn't quite done yet. I'll let y'all know if it falls through.

I'm 172 cm (~ 5 8″) and my PBH is about 79 cm. A Stag medium frame is too big for me, isn't it?

I'm 5'10" and my saddle height is 75.5cm.  I owned a Stag in size Large, and I considered it a little bit small for me.  I now have a Norther/Lyon in size 58 (center to center), which is a little bit taller than my Large Stag was, and I'm calling that size perfecto.

If it helps any, I consider the medium to be a perfect fit for me. I'm 5'8". Don't know my PBH, but the saddle height in the pictures of my bike at the top of this thread is about 71-72cm.

Well, coming from who rode Paris-Brest-Paris on it, it helps. My experience with road bike fit is limited to what I've read (PBH 79-80 cm => seat tube c-c 52-53 cm).

Bill's sizing is dead on. Plus it's the same as me and this is dangerous when he thins his herd.

I’m 5’10 1/2, but I have long legs and a short torso. My size L Stag was both too short in the seat tube and too long in the top tube for the fit my physique seems to prefer. I’ve moved on to a Norther Lyon 60.5 x 57. It definitely more comfortable for me. I’ll probably be selling my Stag here, so those of you who are interested in a size Lkeep an eye out for my listing.

I've measured again my PBH (it seems to be 81.5 cm, not 79 as I remembered) and had a look to a few more online calculators: medium could be my size (later I'm going to check the standover and saddle heights of the bikes I ride).

If your deal fell through, and you considered the possibility of selling your Stag without the wheels (otherwise I, too, would need airplane tickets), I could be interested.

Evan, I’ve a pal about the same height but opposite proportions — short legs, long torso. He would be interested in your bike / frame. LMK.

My recent custom was 518mm C-T, but had a 590mm effective top tube; traditional frames with level top tubes and seat tubes >56-57cm C-T look too big to me, and 58cm C-T upwards are definitely too big. Not everyone is proportioned similarly...

Me, too. I confirm that I'm interested (in case, I'd need it to be shipped without wheels via USPS).

Aargh! I'll wait for the next one.

Since yesterday I came across a photo of your Stag with a low rider rack, front panniers and a rando bag, can I ask you how has been riding it with that kind of load? Is the Stag suitable for light touring? Thanks.

And I’m not sure if it affects the way the new owner feels about his acquisition, but it’s the same Stag that Jan Heine rode whilst mainly on a review ride of the 333fab AirLandSea, with Steve F, with nice positive comments and photos in BQ62.

I generally travel pretty light when touring/camping, with about 20 - 25 lbs spread evenly between the handlebar bag and the two front panniers. With that sort of load I found the Stag to handle very well. Also factor in that I'm not a big guy--about 150 lbs soaking wet.

I'm a little heavier, but the weight of the stuff I carried during my last journeys was about the same. Thank you, Steve.
