Can WeeWx decode the audio modulated packets from the Argent Data Systems WS-1? My WS-1 is happily sending out audio packets, and I can see them on PocketPacket on my Mac and iPad, but I cannot get them in to Weather Display or anything else. Will WeeWx allow me to actually receive and display my weather data? If it can do this, how are the connections to the radio made? I had thought that it would be pretty simple; a matter of piping the audio from the receiving radio in to the software. However, I am starting to think that most of the weather display software wants serial input. I am pretty much a newbie at this; please help, and be merciful.

Hello Simon:

Weewx can only read serial data from the weather station and it works really well for WS1, but it can't decode APRS.
You only need a standard serial cable if you have a serial port in your Mac. If it's not the case, try with a Serial to USB cable converter.
In the WS1 yahoo support forum you will find how to make the connections to the station.
Weewx setup is very easy for the WS1.

I hope this might help you.

Thanks for the response. I have devised a workaround for the problem; I am able to operate the weather station remotely and transmit the data over vhf, and then use a software TNC to decode the packets, and PocketPacket to get the packets to the internet. It works very well, but configuration took a long time, as most weather station users make use of the serial port, and most weather station software obliges them. If you look at APRS.fi under my call, VE7SXS, you should be able to see the current weather inside my house. Getting the station outside to face the elements is taking longer than I had expected!
