I have a requirement from a client to ALWAYS show the sorter arrows on the sort column in SQLFORM.grid.  Anyone have a good way to turn that on globally?

do you mean that you need in all headers the up/down arrows shown ?

Yes, just for the active sort.

Well that answer was confusing.  Rereading Niphlod's question I should have responded:

No, not for all the column headers, just for the one's included in the initial orderby on the SQLFORM.grid call.

ok, then I guess it's doable. Would you please open a ticket to get the feature request tracked ? I can do it in the evening.

PS: until then another way is just to link the grid with the correct var parameter

Just got back to looking at this and though the ticket is closed with a status of FIXED, it doesn't display the sorter icon when you first display the .grid.  Also, line 2212 of sqlhtml.py has a print statement that is putting messages to my console.

Found my issue. I am supplying a list to the orderby parameter. If I supply only 1 field then it works. Is it possible to check if it is a list and if so, turn on the sorter icon for just the first field in the list?
