I had a small window of time today to look at ice. Colchester Pond resurfaced nicely, though the edges are melted out. Having my Greyhound with me , I didn’t make an effort to find a way into the ice. Everywhere I walked along the edge, it was one easy poke. In the high teens tonight, but cloudy might give us some ice growth along the edges. But a board and dry suit would be recommended if you are going to try tomorrow. I think Sunday is a better bet.

Beware, just South if the access, on the West edge, there is a bench set on throwing sized stones. Them at is just what soneobe did. They threw stones way out into the ice, which will stop your blades dead if you hit one, and send you flying like Superman to a nasty crash. That bench is right next to the first power line pike South of the access to the ice.

I must have just missed you Diana,

I visited post-skiing and found much the same. I only had ski poles, but that was enough to see that the edges are much thinner than even a few feet into the pond. Regarding rocks on the ice, I have a nice gouge on my first pair of nordic skates attesting to the damage a thrown rock can do.

I also scouted Indian brook, which has less melting at the edges but with slightly more drifted snow. Image of Indian Brook attached.

Hoping to be able to skate one of these destinations this weekend!
