I am using gVim on Windows 7 with the latest updates and an Acer V243H monitor at the recommended screen resolution of 1920x1080. I am encountering a problem with gVim's screen display.

Occasionally when scrolling, the display starts to get corrupted. Usually :0, :e!, or :$ will straighten out the display.

I am wondering if this is a problem in Vim or in Windows. Any pointers would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Thanks. I have not tried those, but I will the next time this happens, and will report back.

I've had problems with gvim on Windows where certain fonts (and
font-styles: bold-italic was particularly bad) would leave artifacts
in neighboring lines. Increasing my 'linespace' option helped to
clear those up.

And as Tony mentioned (welcome back, Tony...been a while since I've
seen you here and glad to see you're okay), control+L does a repaint
of the screen which is my first line of defense when things look a
little wonky.

Thanks, Tim. It's a really warming thing to see how many people were
troubled by my disappearance (due to the fact that for months I
couldn't find how to enable the Internet on my new machine. No way to
get the old config back because the disk had crashed.) I left a post
on my Facebook page but apparently not everyone saw it — even some of
my Facebook "friends" went on asking each other what had happened to
me.

Best regards,
Tony.

Your PC's GPU is manufactured by Intel?
In that case, it is better and try the following patch.

Thanks. I'll try this. The fact you said Intel made me realize that I'm seeing this problem, but less often, in MS Word, too. The other answer I got is quite useful though, as it does rest the screen, which works more times than not.

Are there instructions for how to apply the Intel patch to correct the vim display error?

This patch has been included into Vim. Get a newer Vim version or
compile yourself from the github repository.

I've thought I got the latest Vim I could find. Do you have a most recent link?

Check your :version output. You need at least 7.4.869

You can compile your own version from github.com/vim/vim

Or if you prefer Mercurial, there is a Mercurial mirror at
https://bitbucket.org/vim-mirror/vim which IIUC is maintained by
Christian Brabandt. The latest changeset it has is at patchlevel
7.4.872 as of this writing.

Best regards,
Tony.
