Hi guys,

Have been getting more and more annoyed with the JEE platform over the years. Too many types of
apps just don't fit on JEE. I started making designs for a new platform, but Vert.x is so close to what
I wanted to make, that I would rather just join the Vert.x community.

Among other things I run the tutorial website http://tutorials.jenkov.com . One way I can contribute to
Vert.x is by writing tutorials and make videos about Vert.x on my tutorial website. The more material
about Vert.x, the better. The easier it is to learn how to create apps on Vert.x the more developers may
switch to it.

I have a few questions, though:

Should I start writing about Vert.x 2.1.5, or should I jump to Vert.x 3.0 directly? Where can I see what
has changed between the two releases?

If it makes more sense to start with Vert.x 3.0, how do I get a Vert.x 3.0 build I can start playing with?
I am still a Git / GitHub noob so please be patient with me. I am working on it :-)

I'd start with 2.1.5 as 3.x is still in development, and 2.1.5 is in production and could use some videos. Rather than waiting, or having to change a video because something changed in 3.x

Your contributions is going to server many developers!!

You can take it from Maven Repository:

It's currently on dev-preview1, but I guess it's good enough...

Enjoy...

v3 is the next thing. since it's totally different from v2 and has so many new stuff to offer, i simply wouldn't waste time on old versions. v3 is also pretty much ready and you can see yourself how fast the work is getting done here.
p.s. i am familiar with your tutorials, they are a great help.

If v3 is much different from v2, then it makes most sense to wait until v3 is out before I write.
Or, I can start making notes from the developer preview.

v3 it is, then!

Hi Jakob,

Tim started to write documentation for Vert.x core, it’s not yet merged in the main build. You can see the preview here https://vertx.ci.cloudbees.com/view/vert.x-3/job/vert.x3-website/ws/target/site/docs/manual.html .

We should make a DR2 early next week, the goal of DR at the moment are to
1/ obtain community feedback
2/ put in place our multi project release process

After the DR2, we will probably make a DR3 as soon as we have documentation merged in Vert.x core.

Thanks,

I am looking a bit at the code in DR1 right now. Simply reading from io.vertx.core.Starter and in.

there are some tasks in the plan that seem to be neither postponed till 3.1 or implemented. among them and of my particular interest are workerqueue, amqp and hornetmq. any idea if they are still on the list? thanks.
