I'm doing a presentation on Vert.x at Jama Software for the Portland Java User Group.

It will be an in-depth look at Vert.x, specifically focused on the upcoming 2.0 release. It should have enough material to help people get started on it. Hope to see you there!

I'll post the slides back to this thread after the meeting.

Good luck and I look forward to the slides

Interesting talk, +1 to slideshare it.
However, can you explain more about why you think Vert.x is based on actor model?

It does follow most (if not all) of the criteria of the Actor Model doesn't it?

Well, you're right!  Reading again the wikipedia definition, it actually does fit.

When I read actor model I immediately think about Akka, which is a substantially different framework. At least, emphasises substantially different aspects.
Moreover, in Vert.x documentation, Tim F. speaks always about "multi-reactor pattern" rather than actor model.

Hi Simone,

Thanks for attending. I placed the slides in Github pages:
http://coding2012.github.io/pjug/

There's a few issues I'll fix later today - as well as post the example programs, but I have to focus on the day job right now ;) In the Vert.x manual there's a reference to the multi-reactor as well as actor model, but I suppose it's less of a language feature and more of an API in Vert.x, but still fits.
