Looking for feedback from users who have successfully implemented Windows with Vagrant and VMWorkstation:

After not having much success with Vagrant and the free VMWorkstation version, I purchased a licensed copy (or work did.)

After spending a month on other projects and building up VM Windows guests for Win7 and Server 2012 R2,
I'm ready to jump back into Vagrant.

Last I looked, the "vagrant package" was not setup to work with VMWorkstation (and I assume that means VSphere).
Is that still the case?

In which case, I'll jump over to Packer and try to create some private boxes for our internal use.

Does anyone have any:
Suggestions, hints, tips, gotchas for creating boxes?

How about building up with a provisioning tool?
What do most folks in the Windows world use?  (hold the tomatoes and boos ye of Linux flavor, this is job related :-)
Chef ?  Or Puppet?
Again, any suggestions, etc...

Anyone built up any check lists, readmes, how to's etc?

Appreciate any and all info.

Hi Paul,

this might be a good starting point if you plan to build your own
windows baseboxes (with Packer):
https://github.com/boxcutter/windows

Or in general check out https://github.com/boxcutter (for other OS too)

He probably means the trial version, it apparently doesn't play nice with packer or vagrant if the full license isn't installed as I've experienced that as well.

I haven't tried vagrant package to build a box on windows mostly because we use an automated build system where packer goes into the workflow nicely. I'll give it a shot today.

Correct, I do mean trial version.
Calling it free is a misnomer.

I came across box cutter last night from other thread and it looks promising. I'll check it out.
