Slimmer and faster strings in v8?

Honestly, I'm not all into this and I'm therefore not sure if this is a thing in v8 already, or could be a thing. Still, I wanted to make sure the blog post doesn't get unnoticed, if there is any room for similar improvements in V8!

(Also, what does the V8 team think about http://blog.llvm.org/2014/07/ftl-webkits-llvm-based-jit.html ? Is V8 still faster? Especially after Apple's keynote which pretended that Safari is way faster than Chrome: http://qz.com/215880/every-chart-from-todays-apple-wwdc-keynote/)

V8 supports UTF16, UTF8 and Latin1 for quite some time now (years).

Develop some new compiler => choose the right benchmarks (or even don't tell what you've measured) => make slides => profit... ;-)
