Saludos, Marcos.

Hope you don't mind my responding in English.  Yes, there are two ways to do this in Mesquite.  One is using File > Export, and in the dialog box choose the TNT option.

The other is to get Zephyr, in which case you can ask Mesquite to run the TNT analyses, and harvest the results, and automatically import the trees back into your Mesquite file.

David,
I forgot to include in my question/post that I was trying to export a matrix with continuous characters--it works fine with numeric and dna data but TNT does not appear in the export window when you have continuous characters.  Yesterday, checking an old matrix of numeric data, I found that this export only works for discrete characters--felt stupid after asking!
     I will look into Zephyr.
Thanks for all the suggestions--some by direct email.

Scott,
Ah, continuous data.  Zephyr won't help for that, yet.  But I bet it would be trivial for me to get export to a TNT continuous character file available in Mesquite, and for Zephyr to support that.  We are trying to get out version 2 of Zephyr (which will be much improved over version 1) this month.  If you are interested in having continuous data added to Mesquite's export, please drop me a note, if you are willing to test it out.

David,
I apologize for not answering sooner—of course I would be glad to serve as a tester if it will help improve the program.
I have several new grad students that are working on analyses that will include both continuous and discrete data, and some will even include sequence data.  I set up some Excel files for them to enter continuous data and have it be converted to a format that could be directly copied to Notepad-pc and saved in a manner that it could be opened by TNT.  I though the best way would be to save three separate files and write a simple script for TNT that would load and join each data base into a single one and run it that way.  If that did´t work, they could just write a combined file that contained the three data bases and run that.  Having Mesquite export the separate files for each type of data would make it a more direct process and not a cobbled up mess.
Either way, they have only gotten to the stage of setting up the continuous data matrices and we found that Mesquite would not export them correctly (they come out all jumbled).  So, this would be a big help and keep them working first in Mesquite.  Later I will have to find some program for visualization of the trees with the combined matrix—but that is a problem for the future!
Let me know when you have something I can try out and how to get the results back to you in the format you need in order to see how it is working.

Thanks for letting me help.
Regards,
Scott
