I understand 'automatic links' that are CamelWords.
no problem with that.

But I wonder about links to tiddlers that are not camewords.
I understand explicit links :-

     [[Evolution]]  [[Ecology]]

to appropriate tiddlers.

What I'm wandering is if there is a way to automatically generate links without the [[]].

Suppose I already have a tiddler with the title "Evolution" and in another tiddler enter the word "Evolution", can a link be generated simply because there is a tiddler to match?

What about the converse?  I have a tiddler (or many!) with that text and created a tiddler with the title.  That would require some sort of rescanning....
But going though every tiddler to re-edit to add brackets would be a thankless task and one would never know if it was complete.

It is the latter case that interests me particularly for wrrting ever evolving documentation, keeping log books of activities, "debugging" and more.

Has this been done?

Hi Anton

> What I'm wandering is if there is a way to automatically generate links without the [[]].

In the world of wikis that feature is called "freelinking". There has been some discussion about implementing it over at GitHub:

The summary is that the obvious, prima facie implementation isn't practical with the current TW core. I think it's an area that needs to be explored through experimental plugins.

Best wishes

Jeremy

Actually it has! TobiasBeer created the intremely interesting LinikifyPlugin for TWC after a discussion on what was termed, if I reall, autoweaving. Do a search for LinkifyPlugin and I'm sure you'll find it or tell me and I'll link you to it.

I found the plugin valuable (when I used TWC) for very niched TW's because it was not desirable to have links show up in wrong contexts.

In some sense I think this way of linking is much more natural than e.g camelcasing. But natural is of course not always the best solution.

Thank you Mat.
Yes I can see that there are contexts where it is natural and contexts where it is the proverbial Royal Pain.
Perhaps it needs a
<nofreelinking>
...
</nofreelinking>
as well!  Even in contexts where it is useful it can be ... not useful!

meanwhile .... I'll make the best of it I can.
Again, thank you, and that you all.
Tiddlywiki is getting to be a ... well 'crutch'.
How can I get along without it,, i ask myself?
I just with I had it *native* on my phone/tablet with a suitable skin...

I just installed Tobias' LinkifyPlugin, however, I got an error message because my AndTidWiki TW Classic, 2.4.1, is too old of a version.

For what it is worth:

WordWeb for Windows generates automatic linking for every new word you add to a custom glossary. If you add a new word and definition, for example:

"TiddlyWik"
"TiddlyWiki is a powerful wiki in a single html file which possesses all the features needed to manage and to outline personal notes in an efficient way."

WordWeb then linkifies every word in the definition, providied each word is already in WordWeb or a custom glossary. IOW, no dangling links.

The feature, alone, makes WordWeb the only app I know of that aproximates the automatic linking capacity of the brain. And now TW, too. :)

Like NoteTab, WordWeb has no plans to include this featue in its Android app. :(

Thanks. Auto tagging will be my next project, after I get Linkify working.
