[TWc] Cannot save in IE10 or Chrome32

Hello Tiddly-users,

Currently I am doing an internship for a company. They would like me to manage existing company knowledge from different sources. I reckoned that TiddlyWiki is an excellent tool for creating a clear and simple survey of data.
Creating the database is no problem in every version of Firefox that I have. IE10 / Chrome32 is a different story. It won't allow me to save files.
For me this is no problem, but when I'll complete my assignment the database will be used by IE10 users (employees) that will have to update and manage the database.

How can I get IE10 to work with TiddlyWiki, so employees can save their edits? Converting the TWc to TW5 is no option, as I have no time to rewrite plugins and copy/paste/massage all tiddlers to the new version.

TiddlyWiki Classic is a single-file, single-user wiki.  While it *works* like a web site, it is *owned* like a document.  How are you planning to share this document with the other employees?  Will the document be posted on an internal file server or web server or will each user update their own local copy and then send the update to you for redistribution? How will you resolve concurrent editing (two users editing the document at the same time)?

There may be some plugins and configuration setup that may help with file I/O issues for your specific use-case, but it depends on how you intend to share the document and how users are to edit it (e.g., small, isolated, infrequent changes vs. many large rapid changes).  Please describe the sequence of activities for the process you envision...

Thank you for your reply. The database will be a stand-alone file that has links to a public server (for pictures/pdf's which i inserted as iFrame). It will be used as a 'reference book' by a specific team of about 4 employees. The database is a survey of specific legislation of European countries that I am currently collecting and translating. Only a few times a year minor updates will be necessary, and employees will able to edit and update the wiki and distribute this through e-mail/usb to the other 4 employees. No need for concurrent editing.

It will be a 99% finished product, that sometimes need (infrequent and small) editing.

My only concern is that I can't seem to get TiddlyWiki to save as the company uses IE(10). Unfortunately installation of Firefox on the employee machines is currently no option to resolve this

Hi Mike.

I have been able to save TWC on all versions of IE, but not always with default settings. IIRC the settings that interfered were to do with ActiveX controls. I seem to remember 'Internet options > Advanced > Security > Allow active content to run in files on my computer' had an effect (I could be wrong), and it may be that I couldn't get it to work with 'Internet options > Security' set above 'Medium-High'. (Sorry to be so vague; I can't check this out for you at the moment. My current set-up works with default settings for Medium-High security and the active content enabled as above.)

My suggestion would be to run IE in a virtual machine if you have no control over security settings and see which ones need changing to work. Perhaps a needed change could be made to Intranet settings? I'm no expert at any of this but I do know that messing around with settings enabled saving in modern IEs when the default settings wouldn't work, and there's a fair amount of info out there via Google regarding corporate set-ups and zones.

Hi Paul,

 

I fiddled with the security settings in a VM and I now get TiddlyWiki to save itself. Now I have to figure out which specific ActiveX control interferes with the default (medium-high) security settings, but that is just a matter of enabling/disabling until I find out. Thank you (once again) for your help Paul - and Eric!
