Time to switch gears and start trout and/or smallmouth fishing.  Anybody been out doing either.  Planning on all day trip Saturday somewhere undecided yet any suggestions.

Yeah, I've done a lot of the former in the past month.  If I were going out this weekend, I'd probably stick to the larger streams given the low water conditions.  It kind of depends upon how much rain we get Fri though.

BTW -- do you have an orange kayak with a rod holder?

Last Saturday I spent 4.5 hours on the South River at Waynesboro. Eight 15-18" rainbows. only downside was the 2:30 drive from my house in Alexandria. The South River fly shop opens at 9 on Saturdays. They also do 4 hr trips.

The "delayed harvest" rivers in Western MD have been fishing great (a bit far for a day trip, but doable).  They are 12-14" stocked rainbow.  Not too picky.  They like streamers (size 10 to 6 have been good) which probably are good imitations of pellet flies.  It can bet a bit croweded, but not like Fletchers :-)

They are easy to get tired of too, but its a good holdover until the bluegill spawn really starts taking off.

Small wild trout streams were fantastic all winter and this continued into the spring. Without significant rain soon the fishing quality will start going downhill fast - get in on it while it's still good!

I have yet to catch a smallmouth this year, but did get into some large fallfish last Saturday and saw lots of suckers in the small creek I was fishing, which means bass will be close behind if they aren't there already. Friends did fairly well on the Monocacy last weekend.

I fish out of an orange pungo with dashboard and rod holder attached, but mine is not up for sale.

Hitting the Little Patuxent tomorrow to see what's left of the stockers from last week as well as check out the smallmouth action. If the fishing is good, I'll definitely let the greater TPFR community know.
