Spey Lines for the Potomac

Already looking forward to the shad run next spring.

I got my hands on a Winston Nimbus 11'9" 6wt Spey Rod and I'm looking at skagit heads. 

I know its kind of a feel thing but I'm considering an integrated head and running line. At the moment a SA Spey Lite Skagit integrated 360gr.

Any recommendations/thoughts?

I was thinking something. On the shorter aihe considering this rod is on the short size of spey. 

Possibly ~15’

I would be looking at skagit short head about 20’ and about 450 grains.

 See if you can try a couple weighted heads between about 425-475 grains.   That might bring you back to a head, instead of an integrated line. But SA has a 420 integrated that might work if you want one package.

Thanks a ton for the info! Should I be concerned about the stripping of the loop to loop through the guides or am I not getting that far into the head when stripping for shad?

Jake, 

Like a lot of fly fishing answers - it depends. 

 But generally for me, I would strip to the head and recast,  or I pick a lucky number -every fifth casts - I get to the connection and bring it though the tip top and make a few more strips. I then slide the connection back out, adjust my connection overhang, and recast.
