Sorry, not yet. Bluetooth Near has been on the todo list for a long
time but I never got round to doing it.

has this gotten any higher on the todo list? i plan on getting a few of those low energy Bluetooth tags to use as location triggers as well so it would be great to see this feature some day soon

Hi at all,

is it possible to start an action if a bluetooth device is only in range (not connected) ? The background is to use it as activation for carmode cause i have an old gns tmc bluetooth receiver which was usefull under wm6 but android can't use it. The receiver will not be connected such a headset or something else so i can only use the option "in range" but it seems tasker can only handle connection events.

Help would be nice....

Yes, I'm going to be doing 'most asked for' features after the current scenes update, one of
which it BT Near.

Hi Pent,

It's 2014 now - happy new year! Any updates on this feature request please? I'm willing to fund this development, if you're short of cash/time.

Thanks

I set up a profile to use this, but at least for me it isn't working:

Nexus 5
Bluetooth nearby: OBD2 scanner and a Sony Xperia T. Neither of these is broadcasting, but they are communicating with each other over Bluetooth so I know they are functioning. I have tried with these devices paired and unpaired with my Nexus. I can't convince the profile to go active with any combination of settings.

I have not tried to enable "always visible" on the Xperia, I will try that on the way home. Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Tim

Same problem with my NEXUS 5 too.

The "Bt near" function sometimes activates bluetooth.
But at any time there will be no stable connection established between the NEXUS 5 and my other device.

Switching on bluetooth manually a connection is established an goes active.

Have you got the 4.4.3 update already ? There are a lot of BT fixes in there.

OK. Could you describe exactly what the problem is, because I'm not sure why you're talking about making a connection
with the device in relation to the BT Near context.

Thanks,

Pent

Hi Pent,

after doing the OTA update to android 4.4.3 it seems so that all taskers 'near' settings did not work any more at any time.
Before the update Wi-Fi near settings worked as well. After 4.4.3 no near wi-fi network is regognized any more by tasker.

With the blueetooth near function there are different problems.
Near does not work. Using a tasker profile to turn on bt after finding a bt nearby device the problem is it could not find the nearby device at any time.

Turning on bt manually a connection is established in a few seconds to my device (BT car audio/ phone)

By using taskers "not in range 'bt near' function" to test the contrary function (turn on when its not in range) bt switches on.
But the problem is - no connection is established to my nearby device (bt phone-function of my car)

Thanks,
Martin

I had problems using BT Near as a trigger as well. When I used it to open Bluetooth and connect to my in car device, initially it finds the device and triggers the task which opens Bluetooth after a short delay. However, after a few minutes the Bluetooth turns off or has issues in car device because it loses the connection and won't reconnect. But if I manually connect, everything works perfectly. It seems that when BT Near is used the Bluetooth connection is unstable.

curious about BT range.  The BT Near seems to be working nicely.  :) Looking to use "range" as an IPS for my home.  With all my automation and house talk back, I'd like elements to happen only in the rooms I'm in (not all over the house).  :|

Any progress on this (BT signal strength?)

thanks
