I have a string copied to my Android clipboard that I want to paste into a variable I have setup in Tasker. But when I long-click to paste, no dialog comes up. Has paste been disabled on that text area?

Thanks!

Additionally, selecting, cutting, etc is impossible.

It has been like that since the last UI update. When I first complained about it Pent replied " It is just a standard Android text input box". Apparently the geniuses at Google did not feel we would need the most useful functions in any text box (IE cut, copy, paste).  If you happen to have a physical key board or can emulate a paste function then you can do these operations. For example I can paste with my pixel c keyboard by hitting (ctrl v)

Just a fyi..  Tasker does not back up the values of global variables in a standard data back up. So if something bad happened on a update and you need to restore your data your global variables will loose there data. If I need to manually set global variables I do it with a task. That way if I restore data all I need to do is run that one task to get all my globals back.  The copy and paste works the variable set action.

A bug in Android since 2013:

https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/37128055

Now mysteriously marked as 'obsolete' for some reason, though
unfixed.

Ahh, thanks for clarifying Pent. So it is not intentional. It is they just don't care to fix it...  Nice!!!!!!!!!

Not the first time they ignore bugs for years unfortunately.

... I do the same myself, but I wouldn't if I had their resources.

Luckily I was able to use a one-off task to populate the value. But I feel sorry for all the non-Tasker apps that have to deal with it. :)

Why is it that other text boxes (like task configuration values) work but this one doesn't? Is it a different kind of text box?

Just because it's in a popup window.
