Playing notification sounds while Bluetooth connected?

I have a task to play certain notification sounds based on who sent an SMS. I've noticed that the sound does not play while my phone is connected to a Bluetooth speaker (headphones, car audio, etc). The "play ringtone" action is set to play on the notification stream. I'm not sure what version of Tasker this may have started with... like I said, I just noticed it when the task fired but the notification sound did not play.

Am I missing something here, or is this a bug?

Running latest Tasker beta, Nexus 5 on 5.0.1.

Maybe try a different audio stream?

I will continue to investigate...

Also try play music instead of play ringtone.  Even try the simple alert > beep action.

I've been playing with sound between my phone and my car over bluetooth.  I hate to say it but most of the bluetooth-related stuff seems limited.  Some stuff doesn't seem to work if the phone screen is off or the lock screen is on.

Looks like playing the sounds as music didn't work either, on any stream.

What does work through the bluetooth connection?  Call audio?  Music audio?

Everything. I can play podcasts or take calls on my car audio. I haven't tried, but I think notifications from my native SMS app (Textra) works too. (It does work through my BT headphones, and it does not work through Tasker.)

That doesn't make any sense. Are you sure the Tasker actions were running?

Yes, I am. In fact I can manually fire the task and it works (vibration goes off in the same task, for instance).

Hmm. Unfortunately, I think I'm out of ideas. Sorry. I can't think of how anything would know the difference between Tasker playing a sound and anything else over Bluetooth.

This could be a bug inside Tasker itself?

Matt R, this is similar to the issue I've been having.  I can get Tasker's 'say' to speak through bluetooth in my car ONLY if I surround the action with AutoVoice BT headphone actions.  In this case, the car thinks I'm making a call which is not exactly what is desired.

I've tried using play music and play ringtone with the results I've given in the other thread, namely that 'play music (file)' starts executing 'play music dir (subdirs, random)' immediately after playing the file.

Play ringtone does not get through bluetooth to my car on any stream.

I think at least part of the problem is that cars automatically requests the bluetooth player it's paired with to start playing music, if the car's audio system is set to play music through bluetooth.  In Android, this request always goes to the default music player.  I think this confuses Tasker.
