Can Tasker identify if an incoming call comes through my Google Voice number or AT&T mobile number? Currently there's no way for me to tell if the caller is calling my primary or GV line, I would like to have Tasker pop up a message box during the ring that shows me the line it's calling.

I am using a program called Groove IP for my Google Voice calls. Easier to tell where the call is coming from plus if I'm connected to WiFi the call doesn't count against my minutes or use any data...

Groove IP never worked for me. I'm happy with GV integration just need to see which line the call is coming through.

Gotcha. I went with the Groove IP solution because it allows me to use my GV number without using cell phone minutes. I believe you can set GV to display your GV number on incoming calls but then you can't see who's calling. Not a very good solution to your dilema. GV really should have included VOICE in the GV implementation but I'm going to guess that carriers didn't like the idea very well. As far as I can tell, using GV to forward the number to your cell is treated like an incoming call and the phone can't tell the difference. Not much help...

Thanks for the suggestion though.

You maybe right about the phone won't be able to tell the difference of forwarded call, in that case, tasker won't be of help.

I did think of something that may help. If the people that call your GV number only call that number, you can do it that way. Unknown numbers could be handled as GV calls until you told it otherwise.

How can I set Google voice to display my personal Google phone number when calls are fowarded to my cell? I know it seems odd that I would want that but it allows me to know if a call is coming in on the Google line versus my primary number.

Don't know. GrooVeIP only handles my Google voice calls and it does so without interaction with the normal phone app. Different ringtones and all...

That is a feature in the Google Voice app, that is how I use it.
I wish there was a way to display the incoming number as well as some sort of indicator as to which line it's coming in to. But the only way I found to have GV have a different ringtone was to do it this way through the GV app

You can change your Google Voice settings to send your GV number as caller id instead of the caller's number. You need to do this in the GV settings, though, not with Tasker. There are a couple of Tasker plug-ins that allow you to change settings. I don't know if any of them support this particular setting.

I contacted the developer of the Locale GV Settings plugin to see if this option could be added. He thinks it is possible, and has added it to his to-do list. You might want to check out this plugin anyway, as it comes in handy if you use Google Voice a lot.

I have the gv locale plugin. It does the job if you want your calls to follow your land line (home, work) but it is slow and pricey for just a plugin. I do recommend it but not very enthusiastically. To my recollection, it does not have that setting to change the display number.

I just looked and it does not support that setting. However, it did just occur to me to turn on your call screening requiring you to press 1 to accept call. That setting is configurable by gv plugin.

I have my call screening on by default except for some people such as family. Anyone who I don't know that calls my phone and didn't trigger the call screening called my name number if the call screening comes through then it's my GV number.

I figured out a hack and yes it is a total hack for differentiating GV calls from calls to your primary number using an Android phone.  Note that this will probably work on an Apple product but WILL NOT work on a Windows or any other phone not capable of running the Hangouts plugin such as an old non-smart phone.  I have pasted below an e-mail to a friend I had been discussing this with.

I wanted to let you know I figured out how to differentiate between calls to my Google Hangouts number and my cell number while still showing the caller ID of the caller on my cell.  It is a total hack but does the job.

Anyway, there are two options in Google Voice for forwarding as I am sure you know.  One shows the GV number on your cell phone no matter who calls while the other forwards the number of the actual caller to your phone.  I wanted the second option but I have no idea if the call I am answering was for my personal cell phone or my business GV number.

So, I went out and got an HTC Desire 610 Android phone with a 14 day no questions asked return policy with the intention of experimentation to see what I could do.  I installed the Hangouts plugin and Hangouts Dailer plugin and associated the appropriate accounts on the phone.

If someone calls my cell phone, only the ringtone for the phone sounds.  If someone calls the GV number, the cell phone rings as well as the GV number in hangouts.  The cell phone seems to take priority so I answer that and the Hangouts sounds go away after it stops ringing.  Yes, this is a toral hack but it works!

I assume this would work on any other Android phone as well as an Apple device with the hangouts plugin installed.

I went against getting the Windows phone for a couple main reasons.  There was no Google Hangouts/Voice support without lots of hacks.  None of the mainline credit card readers seem to work with it and this is something I will probably do using my phone.  The Windows phone I looked at was a Nokia Lumia 635 which looked like a really solid phone for the money if you could stand the Windows based on many reviews I read.  Good reception, call quality, and reliability/durability, as well as a nice bright screen made of Gorilla glass were all included.

Do you think using a Google Voice number for business purposes will provide an acceptable level of quality and reliability?

See if Voice Choice 2 helps.
It allows you to choose which contacts you dial with GV number or actual cellphone number.
There are some advanced features that might help with your predicament but I'm not 100% sure.
Just a happy user of the app.
