Hello!

I was made aware of your space by a friend.

I'd like to pop by one weekend to repair a LED desk lamp I have. The USB socket has lifted off the circuit board. The legs are still there so I'd like to solder them on please.

I also have a power bank. I think it may have the same issue whereby it charges when the cable in the USB port is held in a particular position. However, I'm struggling to open the cover. If anyone can help me with this, please let me know.

I live in Zhunan so I can only visit the Taipei Hackerspace on the weekends. I'm not sure if there are any hackerspaces/makerspaces in Hsinchu. If there are, I'd be happy to check them out as well.

Thank you for reading.

Kind regards,

Huzaifa

Hi Huzaifa,

It's brilliant that you are trying to fix things! It's amazing how much longer things can be used with a bit of care and maintenance.

Yeah, the power bank sounds like a broken connection. Fixing it might be a bit trickier due to the case and it being closely packed, but it might work.
I'm happy to help with the soldering, just later (I've just come back to Taiwan and still in quarantine, and have to see how the Hackerspace itself is doing currently).

I haven't been to the Hackerspace for a while, so not sure what's the situation on the access, but weekend should be possible to be arranged. Don't know any *spaces in Hsinchu personally, it sounds like there should be something, since so much tech is made there.

Cheers, and keep in touch!

Hi Greg,

Many thanks for your email and happy new year! It seems that the email from the mailing list ended up in my spam folder.

A fellow person in the group had a soldering kit which he kindly let me use to try and fix the lamp. However, upon closer inspection, the circuit board had snapped and I'm not sure how it was making an electrical contact for so long. It was worth a try to repair and learn in the process. I have since bought another one from the second hand store.

I've not looked at the power bank but it is on my to do list to try and fix. Hope you're out of quarantine now. Let's keep in touch and see when there is a possibility to meet up.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Huzaifa
