i have just started modelling reservoir in SWAT and am having problem of inputting the volume of water needed to fill the reservoir to the emergency spillway into the SWAT dialogue box correctly. SWAT indicated (10^4m^3). My value is 270 million cubic meter. i input 27000*10^4m^3 into swat but getting "Error input validation_leave()

please does anyone knows the write format of writing this 270,000,000 cubic meter (volume of water needed to fill the reservoir to he emergency spillway) in swat format in RES_EVOL parameter diagloue box.

Hope hearing from you soonest
Thank you very much

Elizabeth,

There is a range limit on the RES_EVOL parameter in the ArcSWAT database.  You'll have to go in there and increase the maximum number for your reservoir.  Look for the "resrng" table in the ArcSWAT database your model is calling from.  Inside there you can increase the max limit of RES_EVOL.  I think the default limit is 3000.

Your units are correct, but probably the allowed maximum size SWAT allows is too small -- the default maximum EVOL is only 3000 10^4 m3 (also called "ha-m").  Open up the SWAT2012.mdb in Access, then open the "resrng" table, and change the RES_EVOL MAX_ value from 3000 to 30,000 (anything large enough to accommodate your reservoir).

Dear Jim,

I did not notice that before.

I have a reservoir which as RES_EVOL = 2190400*10^4 m3 (larger than default maximum). I checked in SWAT2012.mdb in Access, it is still the same. But, my model is working (I checked the Output.rsv file, and in there  the volumes are >3000*10^4m3). While inserting the these paramters for a reservoir, I did not enter via the GUI but opening my SWAT project Access (Atha_detail.mdb). The individual reservoir input files are all correctly written.

So, that (input via GUI and directly in project database) does make difference? While running, does SWAT check the limits?

Regards,
Narayan

Dear Elizabeth,

I am facing a similar problem in the input, I understand from your post that you have worked on the reservoir data input..My data for the reservoir volume is 20.88 Mm^3 in emergency spill and 16.33 Mcum in principal spill. How to convert this into the reservoir input format. Kindly help me please.
