stb-tester crashing after losing the stream

Hi,

I want to use stb-tester python API to develop automated tests for stbs. The problem is that I am only able to perform tests when the stream is available. Tests where I have to turn off the STB to validate if it is in deep stand-by (e.g) I am not able to perform it because GStreamer crashes.

Do you have an idea on how to solve this?

What's your hardware setup like? What capture card are you using? Do you use an HDCP-stripper?

We are using a box that catch the stream with an HDCPD-stripper for the purpose.

I seem to recall experiencing this exact behavior a few years ago. In my case the problem was solved when I started using an HDCP-stripper. I assume this was because the HDCP-stripper would output a blank screen rather than no signal.

What type of HDCP-stripper do you have and what type of capture card?

I'm not familiar with that hw but it seems you're using an HDMI splitter that outputs a digital HDMI signal.

I don't think the root cause of this problem is actually in the hardware since I think it's reasonable to expect stbt/Gstreamer to be able to deal with loss of video signal but I think that you could override this issue by using an HDCP-stripper that outputs an analogue signal since this would output a blank image rather than no image.

I have good experience with these two (you'd need a special firmware to strip HDCP with these devices fyi!)
