Export Spyder configuration to different machine

Hi,

Over time I configured my Spyder version on one pc just the way I like it, and now I would like to install Spyder somewhere else with the same settings.
Is there a way to export configurations like syntax highlighting, background colours and fonts?

I'm using Linux (Kubuntu) and Spyder v2.2.1.

You could try copying over the spyder.ini file. Should be in ~.spyder2/
directory.

I only see the following files:

monitor.log  spyder.lock  template.py

and a db folder.

The template.py might be interesting, but it is empty. Maybe I can export my settings as an ini file, or maybe that template file?

I would say it is somewhere in your home directory. I know some
distributions are stuffing everything in ~.config/ so you might look
there. Otherwise do a find -iname spyder.ini in your home directory.

Sorry, there was a typo in my last post!

I meant:

If you want, try in a Spyder console:

from spyderlib.baseconfig import get_conf_path
get_conf_path()

This should return the directory that Spyder is using to save the spyder.ini file.

Just take a quick look at it before grafting, there are a few entries which might have to be changed, i.e. locations of system files.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried them all, there does not seem to be any spyder.ini in my home directory. Not even in the path I get from get_conf_path().
Any other suggestions? Is there anything I need to do inside Spyder first maybe?

So what is the path returned by get_conf_path()?

If there is a path returned what is the listing for the directory when
you do ls -al?

I just realised, when you mentioned ls -a, that I did not even check for hidden files. There is a hidden .spyder.ini.

I presume that is the file I was looking for? It does indeed have many settings. I'll try and implement that on my other pc soon.

Yes, though in newer versions of Spyder it has been renamed to
spyder.ini, no leading dot. So you might need to rename it for it to be
seen.
