i've just upgraded all my smart switches/sockets to the latest Tasmota but i have one i can't get upgraded. A Slampher light bulb socket.

i have wifi connection to it. It is on 6.4.1 and only has 168K free which isn't enough to even upload a minimal BIN file ( that version is so old it doesn't understand.GZ files)

I've also had it open and hooked to a USB>TTL and followed instruction for a V2.0.but cannot get it into Flashing mode. Tasmotizer  just says "connecting" and then times out. tried button, tried grounding R9. checked the RX/TX on the USB adapter etc.

Would prefer to upgrade it OTA if possible is there any console command i can send that will free up enough memory to upgrade to 6.7.1 (368k) and then follow the advised upgrade path from there ?

or Would ding a "Reset configuration" from the UI  free up enough memory ? and would i lose all wifi settings doing this ? I was a bit wary of trying in case i wiped out the only connection i have to this device. ( or does it go back to AP mode after a reset ?)

Thanks in advance.

Glen.

I have a power socket which has the same issue. The thing is that if it works and you don't need any of the features of a later version don't upgrade. There are a lot of people who come on here saying 'it was working fine until I upgraded...'. It upsets my tidy mind that it's not upgraded but I've learnt to live with it.

I get you. I guess I just have the IT mindset of, if it's not on the latest version then it's probably not as secure/reliable as it could be.

If it was only a version or two behind it probably wouldn't bother me as much.

it's just the fact that it's stuck on such an old version.

Most of Tasmota's vulnerabilities lay in the version of the Wi-Fi Core that the binary is using. 2.3 has a particularly nasty one should the device ever reset and start broadcasting its AP. 2.6 is the lowest version that seems to have resolved most of the known issues (primarily operational). I believe the Core is not at 2.7.x.

As for flashing your device, you may only be able to flash it via the serial interface and then only if you completely erase the flash. Also, you may need to use something like tasmota-lite or compile your own binary with the fewest features you require for your device so you can use the smallest binary possible. Don't be afraid of compiling. Using the Gitpod online IDE it's very simple. The Tasmota Docs describe how to do it.
