... for the first time in.... 'ever' I've decided not to just click 'update' to get Yosemite, for fear of any gremlins.

Be grateful if any fearless early adopters posted their experiences in this thread!

Thanks

Been fine for me apart from Mail, lots of slow syncing and messages reappearing after deletion. Had it on both laptop and macpro, hopefully it'll get sorted soon!

Hi

all its been relatively fine for me as you say Sam slow syncing in mail and I had a problem streaming Iplayer to my apple tv for some reason ... But I found its pretty stable and quicker ... I use duckduck go :-) and find it irritating at times with crap search results but other than that it's all good :-)

Hi y’all,

My partner upgraded his MacBook Air last night and all went through without a hitch. Mine was fine until about 99% of the way through on the final “installing” progress bar when it sat there forever. I pressed the iMac’s rear button and restarted and it booted up and completed the install fine. The only thing I’m not sure about is the colour picker window which looks crude and garish, but I suppose I’ll have to live with that. :-(

ice and speedy on everything so far apart from Spotlight rebuilding all its indexes …

Also, 1Password 5 is a free upgrade which I installed but if you have bought 1Password 4 from AgileButs rather than the Mac App Store it kills your iCloud Sync if you used it and you’ll have to buy the store version at 30% off for £25 or change your sync method. I’m switching over to WiFi though. Info here https://guides.agilebits.com/1password-mac-kb/5/en/topic/switching-to-wi-fi

Other than that, I’m enjoying the new interface.

As always, one of the highlights of a new release of OS X is John Siracusa’s in-depth review. Get a cup of coffee and settle down for the full 25 screen experience: http://arstechnica.com/apple/2014/10/os-x-10-10/

OK, off to continue the ritual disk grind of updating various apps weighing in at hundreds of MB each. Sigh …

Anyone else having trouble with Mail as per Sam?

I use it constantly and might wait for .0.1 update before being driven mad with slow syncing and other bloopers.

I 'upgraded' to Yosemite on my macbook pro. Working well. The only downside so far for me is Libre Office now crashes when converting document formats - I get a Java error.

Also I'm undecided whether I like the new user interface styling very much - reminds me of Ubuntu.

Overall is fine and shouldn't grumble too much as it's kindof free.

Thanks Andy.

I feel rather torn.

I really like Mavericks, and the new UI doesn't really appeal. I don't really like the system font, and there is something to be said for enjoying what you're looking at it one spends to long staring at the screen each day.

Trying to decide whether it's worth updating or not, as can't think there's anything I especially need in Yosemite?!

It's a shame in some ways, as this is the first time I've ever hesitated with Apple updates. Both iOS and Mac OS are headed in an 'interesting' direction, and not one where I'm overly confident :(

I installed Yosemite on my 2007 iMac yesterday and, up to the moment, everything seems to be working fine. There is no slow down on opening on my elderly machine. All the Apps I use most often seem to work correctly
In design terms I like the new system - gone is the peculiar representation of a “shelf” for icons at the bottom of the screen and in its place is a see-through bar. The icons are all instantly recognisable - Maybe I feel a bit sad to lose the old Picasso-esque “Finder” face icon which seemed to me to be a comforting link with the earliest Mac OSs, and the “Trash” icon seems a bit uninspiring but I like the cheerful shade of blue of the new Folders and the new flattened design.

Just to say I updated Libre Office to the latest version today. And now the Libre errors I was getting on Yosemite have gone.
So no issues with Yosemite for me. I'm warming to it.

A warning for anyone with LaTeX installed: it seems to take absolutely
forever to copy it all over (I was warned, so when it said "2 minutes to
go" for over 3 hours, I was not worried.) It completed sometime in the
night, who knows when.

That's on a 2010 Mac Pro with SSD drive, not even a slow machine...

My 2013 MacPro with 32GB RAM took 15mins to fully sync with my server on the same network. During which emails didn't show they'd been replied to, wouldn't update their unread status and wouldn't delete.

I resorted to us by my iPhone.

Looking forward to 10.10.1 ;)

That's one thing I am finding on my new iPhone - I cannot for the life
of me type anything correctly - especially the space bar. Searches
invariably come out as 'ios8.problems.with.handoff'

Typed using my iMac ;-)

youcan turn off the 'double space bar for full stop' thing if it's
getting in the way.

Ok, so I'm getting closer to hitting 'Update'

But, many forums are full of people who are having terrible times with Apple Mail, and a horrid memory spike making it unusable unless you reboot.

There's hundreds of millions of users, so I don't want a few to put me off, but I can't bear the thought of workarounds with something as simple as Mail (which I'm on a lot, all day).

So, anyone else happy to report that Apple Mail is working nicely in Yosemite? I just want iCloud and Gmail inboxes to work as they do in Mavericks, ie, perfectly!

I don’t seem to be having any problems with Mail that really concern me. It does seem to have forgotten which emails should automatically go to the Junk folder. I’m not a heavy user though so my experience may not be typical.

Good morning,

I seem to be one of the few who is experiencing no problems at all - I have a lot of Mailboxes and Smart Mailboxes and everything is behaving absolutely fine, indeed better if anything when syncing between iPhone, MacBook Air and iMac. On a lighter note I quite like the new mail send sound as well!

CMD-SHIFT-K no longer works for selecting all related (highlighted) messages in a conversation or in the view, select menu it's greyed out. I use this all the time for clearing out mail.
