I have been using Wallet app. happily for many years to store passwords and lots of other information in one place under a master password which is synchronised with my iPad and iPhone.  It now appears to be broken.  Does not sync, producing lots of multiple entries, will not save a password from a web page, etc.  My research shows that it is no longer being supported so guess it is time to move on.  1password seems to get a lot of praise at a price. Do people have any suggestions on this from personal experience.  As I have lots of information in Wallet collected over the years can I export data as .csv from one app to another?

I always enjoy reading the posts from SMUG.

I’m in the same boat I think, Wallet is no longer actively developed so will only get more and more unstable. 1Password seems to be the industry leader, I think read somewhere that the app is now free with in-app purchases to unlock features you need.

The desktop version of Wall includes a CSV export facility, 1Password has an import facility but the data needs to be formatted correctly to be read : https://learn2.agilebits.com/1Password4/Mac/en/KB/import.html

Sam,

I am a little confused with 1password.  It was free to download on my iPhone and iPad but they want to charge me £34.99 in App Store for my Mac Mini. On my iPhone I can upgrade for a small amount to a better version which was fine, but £34.99 for the main app!

They often do offers, so its maybe worth waiting until you see one.
I guess you need to consider what it does and how useful it is to you. For me, keeping around 500 unique username and password combinations (for web server accounts), I think the price is fine.

It's funny. Not so long ago £35.00 for a program wouldn't have been considered expensive but now some people think it is. I'm the same...humming and hahing before spending £25.00 on someithng in case there's something similar for a fiver. In the end I think Graham's right - if it's useful then it's probably worth the money. Certainly has a good reputation.

I've used 1Password for many years and I think it is one of the best apps ever. It just makes being secure easy. I think I love it as much as I love Dropbox.

Best wishes,
Catherine

I have yet to grow up and use 1 Password (though Derek loves it) – and I have just ordered a "child's guide" to Dropbox. I hope to become proficient at both before long!

I have bitten the bullet and bought 1password. Dealing with the .csv version of the data is too technical for me so have started the laborious process of entering everything manually.  It has given me the chance for some housekeeping and getting rid of stuff I do not need.

Thanks for everyone's input - much appreciated.

I bought 1password ages ago now as a bundle for windows+mac. From their website as opposed to the mac store as pricing is sometimes different, and the mac store obviously doesn't sell windows programs.  I use and need both and changing from one password manager is indeed a daunting task

They do run offers from time to time, and I believe I originally got version 2 in a mac heist bundle but never used it, so in my mind that reason makes keeping an eye on what's in the mac heist bundles worthwhile. It's opened my eyes to some very useful software.

You won't regret your purchase Diana - and that's from someone who splashed out on both Mac and iOS versions.

Like others here, I hesitated for ages, as yes, we're in the era of 69p apps, so a program like that now seems rather expensive (unfairly).

It's a tremendous program, and to give me absolute peace of mind and topnotch security online for just over £40, across all my devices, it's been worth it's wait in gold.

Familiarise yourself with it, as it really is a brilliant way of storing so much valuable data, securely, and even keeps users posted when websites we visit have poor security, and/or to update passwords from time to time.

It makes the whole thing seamless, painless and certainly at the moment is well regarded and widely used so I don't fear an end of development any time soon. I even got a private note on Twitter from the owner saying 'welcome to the family' once I downloaded  - which was a nice, (albeit very American!) touch ;)

Thank you for all your comments.  I have purchased 1password and got it syncing on all my devices via Dropbox.  I will  migrate to iCloud Drive in due course. Got a pleasant surprise when I purchased 1 password as I had forgotten about the £15.00 voucher I got from Apple when I purchased Apple TV recently. Painless really.  Wallet is still being offered for sale in the App. store!!!!
