operation for external motor drivers with smoothieboard MKS sbase V1.3

Hello everyone,

I can not manage to run my second Z-axis engine with external motor drivers

should I add a command line in the firmware?

should I take special electronic modules?

should I connect another control part to my smoothieboard?

should I privilege the operation with the jumper on 1/16 or 1/32 multistepping jumper with the external motor driver that goes well for the operation?

I have a card MKS Sbase 1.3, TFT 3.2, different type of external motor drivers, A4988 and DRV8825, I use motor type nema17 1.5A on each axis

it's been weeks that I'm stuck on this problem and I can not find a solution or tutorial

I also have a problem with my opto-electronic limit switches which do not react, but this problem is secondary for me at the moment.

So you have Smoothieboard or MKS..., it's not the same pin-to-pin.
If you have mks you must remember it's pin-logic is a bit different than in Smoothie. So maybe it's the reason of your issue that you use config of Smoothie not properly modified for MKS pins requirement.

I also thought there was no difference because the MKS sbase works in
the same way as smoothie.
when I connect an external module or motor, I control the assignment
of each wire
I did not notice anything as a difference

There are some small differencies between them.
I'm using Smoothie but I'm not an expert of it's configuration. Just thought it may be a reason but not sure of it. I even don't use Z at all, only X,Y,C.

However probably you won't get too much help here if you are using clone not original Smoothie :(.

Hello!

As far as I can see you need to:

Do not change any firmware or config file.

Connect "External motor drivers" pins (Enable Step and Dir) from board to same pins at external driver.

Select at external motor driver same microstepping mode as for on-board driver. You can connect appropriate pins (MS1, MS2 and MS3) on external driver using pull-ups or use some shield board like this:

Connect VMOT and GND of external driver to motors power supply and Vin and GND to logic power supply (3.3-5V).

 And it should work.
