एहसास ही उर्दू का सही शब्द है। लेकिन हिन्दी में आकर उसका रूप बदलकर

अहसास हो गया, जो ठीक नहीं माना जाता। यह वैसे ही है, जैसे हम हिन्दी वाले
ख़याल को ख्याल, दीवान को दिवान, अकादेमी को अकादमी और दूलहा को दूल्हा
या दुल्हा लिखने और बोलने लगे हैं, जो ग़लत रूप हैं।

Oxford Hindi-English Dictionary (edited by R.S. McGregor) में एहसास शब्द की प्रविष्टि नहीं है, जबकि अहसास शब्द की है और अहसास शब्द की व्युत्पत्ति के रूप में "अरबी - इहसास" दिया है । उर्दू-हिन्दी कोश में "एहसास" के अन्तर्गत प्रारंभिक अक्षर केवल अलिफ़ है (बिना ज़ेर के) । अलिफ़ का उच्चारण ए कुछ विचित्र मालूम पड़ता है । हाँ, अरबी में अलिफ़ के नीचे ज़ेर जरूर होगा और तब मूल अरबी में इसका उच्चारण इहसास होगा ।
