Want to say up front this is my first post here on TAC, hope I'm doing it correctly.  If not let me know and tell me how to correct it.

Secondly I want to make it clear I am brokering the sale of this scope for a client from whom I bought some astronomy gear belonging to her late husband. I do not own the scope, I'm just trying to help her find a good home for it. I'm not making any money on this, just trying to help her and the scope out.

So all that being said...

18" f4.2 Plettstone truss DOB astronomy telescope with a Pegasus primary mirror made by John Hall, Spectrum coatings, white-cased ServoCAT drive with StellarCAT hand controller, Argo Navis hand controller, 8192 encoders, DEC and ALT motors, controller stand (needs new top plate), storage pole set and wheelbarrow handle set as shown. Has been in dry storage for a few years. Argo Navis powers up and the motors run but no further testing done.  No finderscope, eyepieces or power supply, just what is shown and listed.

Excellent overall condition, reportedly the last time it was used all was working fine but as it's been in storage so minor repairs or upgrades should be expected.

Other features are:

Short storage poles to make the combination of the main body and secondary cage compact for storage and transport

Starlight dual speed 2" focuser but no 1.25" adapter

Moveable counterweight that slides up and down one of the truss poles

Synta style finderscope shoe on bracket that also slides up and down a pole

Synta style finderscope shoe on the secondary cage.

$5250, cash only, price firm, local pickup in Los Gatos only, we will not ship this. We would meet with the owner for inspection/sale.

I have lots of photos of the scope, I don't know if it's possible to post any here (is it?), contact me and I'll send you a link to a Google Album of them.

Tom Duncan/long time SJAA member and active member of both CloudyNights and Astromart. I'm assuming interested parties can contact me via this group, if not please let me know somehow and explain how that's done.

I know we have a lot of new TAC people in the last 5 years, but I just want to add here that though I have not seen this particular telescope, and have no relationship to it, Plettstone's are absolutely outstanding, built by hand with lovely detail. Michelle did wonderful craftsmanship.

This is likely a "once in a lifetime" opportunity to buy a rare and desirable scope.

Hey Pete, thanks for the support. Agreed, a fabulous scope, all the bells and whistles and a John Hall Pegasus mirror as well! I wish I could buy it but not in the budget at the moment and in my skies not very usable.

Also with her Plettstone scopes, Michelle used Albert Highe's designs. Elegant telescopes with very slick actions. And serious contrast.

I remember Michelle telling me that she insisted that Albert was due some kind of royalty payment since she was using his exact design, but that Albert would not accept more than $1 per telescope!
