Let me know what files, if any, are in the following folder:

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\databases\chrome-extension_edacconmaakjimmfgnblocblbcdcpbko_0

It would be helpful if you could include file sizes and modification dates.

I've just lost all of my saved sessions as well. I had to change my google account password but nothing else has changed. I use a Mac with OS X 10.6.8.
I looked for data in this location: /Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default/databases/chrome-extension_edacconmaakjimmfgnblocblbcdcpbko_0 but Chrome is not listed in the Google folder. I saved two windows worth of websites two days ago - lots of research all gone :(

The path as you wrote it is correct, except that it's missing a ~ in front of it. So it's:

~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome/Default/databases/chrome-extension_edacconmaakjimmfgnblocblbcdcpbko_0

Send the contents of this folder to sup...@sessionbuddy.com if you want me to troubleshoot it.

Cheers,
Hans

Thanks for your reply. I guess I missed the '~' when I did my copy and paste. I initially was looking in the wrong location at another 'Library' but I've found the folder and will be sending it to the sup...@sessionbuddy.cim address along with some .dmp files from around the time my extensions stopped working properly.

Regards,
Claire

@Fi  Is SB functioning properly other than missing the sessions you've saved?

If so, right click the data folder, then click "Restore previous versions" to see if Windows has an older version of the folder with your original data. If yes, see the following instructions for restoring data:

Process for Backing Up and Restoring Session Buddy User Data

If SB is NOT otherwise functioning (eg, clicking the SB icon does nothing), then make a backup of the data file "1" and re-install SB from the web store. Then refer to the instructions above for restoring the backed-up data file to the new installation.

Hans

I lost all of my session data as well, although I lost about 6 months worth of sessions. Very important research for my dissertation. I trusted SB and have been using it for years (this is a relatively new iMac running 10.11.4) on my other computers. They have never synced and I don't think I wanted them to, since each computer has a different use. My computer cannot find the folder you mentioned. It doesn't seem to exist. However, when I tried to save my last session of about 300 tabs, SB was pink and red and stated that there was a problem, asking me to restart chrome. So i did restart chrome, and saved my last session successfully, however, all of my previous sessions are gone.

Can you tell me which files (names, dates, sizes) are in the Session Buddy user data folder

See:
How to Locate Session Buddy Data on Your Computer

You can respond directly to sup...@sessionbuddy.com if you prefer.

Also, do you back up your Mac at all?

Just lost all of mine too :( Came out of nowhere. Not sure what removed the files. Tried the "restore previous versions" there were no entries. Tried file recovery software but came up empty.
The "1" file in the database is 76kb and only holds records for the last two days.

It would be really useful if there was a periodic backup process or if that is not possible maybe something as simple as a periodic reminder to manually backup data with the "export" function.
This is the second time I lose the data (the first was when I thought chrome's extensions sync feature would include data and settings so I did not back up manually).
Thanks for a great extension in general.

The periodic reminder to back up is a good idea. Unfortunately manual backup is currently our best technical option until we complete the online backup feature because automating a local save outside of an extension's sandbox is prohibited for security reasons.

I figured the external fs would be off-limits (a good thing).
Even the simplest feature requires some time to add... Is there a feature request option where I can file an entry about backup reminder so it does not get lost?

Are the (emerging) APIs listed here accessible from a chrome extension? https://developer.chrome.com/extensions/api_other

I don't know anything about extensions and chrome, but if they are it may be a solution further I'm the future.

We don't have a public facing tracker, but we're working on that too :)

Those emerging APIs are not so emerging anymore. The two local storage APIs mentioned on that page we both use, but those are sandboxed. One unfortunate implication of this is that Chrome will delete the associated data with no recourse when an extension is reinstalled, deleted, or something goes wrong.

I too realized today that all my stored sessions are gone. They included over 2 years of my research. Now I feel like a blank slate. I don't know how I am going to write my thesis. I tried searching for the file in the location -

@Serg Copy the local data folder to a safe location first, then reinstall Session Buddy. You can then restore the data into the new installation. See:

How to Back Up and Restore Session Buddy Data (Advanced Procedure)

If that doesn't restore your sessions, your data file might have gotten corrupted and reset by Chrome. In this case you'll need a backup copy of it (either via shadow copy if you're using Windows 7 or from a system backup)

@Tomasz Sorry for the slow reply.

Can you send the recovered file to sup...@sessionbuddy.com

I'll take a look to see if there's anything I can repair or extract.

I also lost all of my sessions, when I checked this location there is a single file titled "1" that is 72 kb, how should I proceed to try and get my old sessions back?

Thanks,
Nico

It would be helpful if you could include file sizes and modification dates.

Just saw that you have implemented a backup reminder and a backup file download function as backup solution so I am stopping by to say Thanks!

@Nico Can you send the file "1" to sup...@sessionbuddy.com for troubleshooting.

Also, do you do any system backups or are you by chance running Windows 7?

Hi,

I did a Windows 10 update which caused me to lose my session buddy data. I tried to search for
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\databases\chrome-extension_edacconmaakjimmfgnblocblbcdcpbko_0
for a data file but it was not found?? Does this mean I'm SOL?? :(

Thanks for your help!

Hello Hans,
I had to hard boot my laptop because everything on my laptop was frozen after leaving it signed in overnight, a Session Buddy tab was open at the time. When I pulled Chrome back up it asked if I wanted to restore session, I said yes. When it pulled up the Session Buddy tab that was frozen all my sessions in Session Buddy were gone except the one it had saved today from the hard boot.

I've tried following directions given to other's in this post and I've found two files in chrome extension's, one labeled "55" modified on 11/21/2017 (today) that is 68KB and one labeled "4" modified 11/7/2017 that is 3,086KB. The latter makes more sense to be my old sessions because I save a ton of my work sessions that contain links to much-needed work.

I don't believe I've ever backed up my sessions, but it is possible I did at some point. I am the only one using this laptop and/or Session Buddy. When I followed the instructions and tried to "restore a Session Buddy backup file into a new Session Buddy installation by selecting Import from the Session Buddy application menu," as was suggested. The information pulled up trying to import either file was all there but I received the response, "that doesn't look right" and the option to save the file was greyed out. Now I'm stuck on what to do next, can you help me to retrieve my lost sessions, please? I would be glad to send you the files.

Thank you!

Hi Hans,

I too realized today that all my stored sessions are gone. They included over 1 year of my research. Now I feel like a blank slate. I don't know what to do. I tried searching for the file in the location -

Hello there. Got the same problem. Lost all my saved sessions and i can't find them. I went to the folder where chrome-extension_edacconmaakjimmfgnblocblbcdcpbko_0 is located but i don't know what to do with it. The file from that folder is from today and has a tiny amount of kb.
Apart from that folder i have another 2 folders with similar names as chrome-extension_edacconmaakjimmfgnblocblbcdcpbko_0, where the files have a bigger size and are from a month ago. I think that they might be some sort of old database files from the extension. Sadly, i didn't do any backup files from the main menu of the extension and i think those 2 files from those 2 folders are the only ones that i'm left with.
What should i do in this situation and can i restore somehow my lost sessions ? Thanks in advance

Hi Chris!
I can feel your pain, I am sorry I can't really give you a solution to this. It's a very sad incident. Search in that local storage folder, "0.localstorage", you will find many websites relevant to your saved sessions. That's all I know. But, we both have learned a very big lesson to backup sessions. Anyhow, Best of Luck.

This just recently happened to me out of the blue on my Mac Mini.

Went to look at the file on my HD for it to restore, and the dates were all too recent.

So I went into my Time Machine Backup, looked through the files there, and found one that did have all my old saved SBs.

Tried to import it and got "That Doesn't Look Right" as an error message.

Now I don't know what to do.

Hi, I have found where these files are saved. Could you please help me restore my old sessions - which I have lost?

I would really appreciate it as it was a long time and long period of research...

Thank you
