I'm in talks with a developer to build a new back end for S2 - something professional with ongoing support. Any ideas for features or designs for an S2 logo would be appreciated.

Great News!  The global search worked well enough, but more sophistication would be welcome (categories of interests, etc.)  Overall, I liked the simplicity WITH logon security that prevented it from going the way postcardx.net went.

The simplicity of the old site was primo. Like the old talks I saw from the beginning, the less extras the better. How pals were able to get tiny emojis in their texts still blows my mind.

I intend to keep it simple. I'm asking the developer for things like the ability to reset your own password and update your email address - functional things that were an issue in the last iteration. I've asked for profile pictures, but I'll need some sort of control on that so we don't get gross stuff. Comments will be there. 

What about a favorites list or something similar for people you write to often? Or is that getting too fancy? Y'all speak up. 

If you think anything is a bad idea (like the profile pics) say so. I can easily just fix the admin stuff that was a problem and leave it like that. I just need some input.

I am not keen on profile pictures, but password reset would be fabulous. And I hope the random button returns. I’ve been completely absent from postal activities (other than being a mail carrier in my town) for about 8 months. A return of S2 will for sure reignite my passion. I’m very grateful to see renewed interest!

I'll second that. I like profile pics but​ we've kinda watched ourselves get obsessed with changing them too often, just getting fixated for some reason. 

Password reset sounds excellent, favourites listing would be great, like the old pal booklets we'd pass around, usually we just list(ed) what we liked. The random button was good, too!

Awesome!! I absolutely loved the simplicity of the old site as well. I don't really like the idea of profile pics, TBH. I loved that it was kind of a throw back to nice, simple, text-only websites. Password reset is great. I also like the idea of being able to favorite people or even makes lists in general. Being able to block people also might be nice, just in case some not great person slips through. I also like the idea of having a more robust search. Not sure if interest checklists would be necessary if the search can just search for keywords in people's profile text, but could also have that sort of thing even just for what you do or don't want sent to you (e.g. I want to send and receive *postcards, *long letters, I don't want *destash, * friendship books). 

I also hope the random button comes back!

I'm not a programmer but I am a data manager so if there's any way I can help, let me know :) I mostly work with MySQL.

Things are proceeding. We've got password reset, the ability to update your email address, comments, the ability to favorite a profile, and a random profile button.  That's enough for v1.2, I think. I'm going to sign off with the developer shortly. 

I'll consider profile pics of some sort and whatever else comes up after the re-launch for v2.

I still need some sort of simple logo. If the user community doesn't come up with something, I'll find a graphic artist.

Good good! I wanted to pipe up that hopefully a favourites button or list is only something each individual user can see. If everyone can see it then favs becomes a popularity-contest and that makes people unhappy, whether they are deemed "popular" or not.  All parties get unhappy.

But a list of favs only each pal can see is more likely great for remembering who all one is writing to if we misplace a physical list.

SO glad this is coming back. Totally missed it and the simplicity! Gracias!

Yes, the favorites list is private to each user. 

Also there will be previous and next buttons if you want to just page through the profiles.

Oh, and there'll be a text field in your profile where you can log what mail you've received - nothing fancy, just a spot to list stuff if you want to.

The idea for a logo that is coming to me would be "S2" as a rectangle or square surrounded by the colour bars we see on airmail envelopes. ^_^

Hey everyone. 

I'm late to the party.  For my vote, I would like profile pictures. I know it changes the simplicity aspect, but it would help an ADHD'er like me differentiate different people (I have 3 Nikki's on my penpal list, for example...). Also, it's a creative outlet. It could be an avatar or a picture, just like on good old Failbonk (facebook). :) 

I like the idea of favorites as well. And I LOVE the heart in the logo. I'm not sure I'm talented enough to design it, and I don't have a tablet to do it, so it'd be an old fashioned sketch on paper. 

Something to consider, maybe initially, would be to keep some/all of the people involved here/interested as Admins for the site to approve profiles. Since the FB group is at 1.1K members, and I certainly don't know all of them, it could help filter any possible spammers. Just a thought. I don't know anyone's availability or anything. I don't work currently, so I have pretty decent availability to help out with mundane tasks like that. :) 

I think that's all I've got for now. I appreciate this forum for discussion and suggestions! And your and the developer's work! <3 I have sorely missed S2. It is and will remain my favorite website. <3

I just wanted to comment that although I have no problem with profile pics, I never really thought about the lack of them before, and now I think it might be nice not to have them, as I'm sure they can be sort of biasing, in what way good or bad I have no idea, but I just think I might appreciate the lack of them. Plus it would look cleaner. But anyway thanks for the plans to revive it, yay yay! And really I'd be thrilled with anything at all, as long as it meant the return of the site!
