Thanks. It's not looking good. We were going to stay with friends behind their storm shutters, but they've run to Orlando. The plan now is to hunker down at the newspaper which I'm told is a Cat. 5 shelter

After a lot of deliberation we opted to ride it out at home. Not sure how close you followed the storm but the 11 pm update from the NHC included a small right shift in the predicted path. I woke up this morning to a hurricane that never quite got its shit back together after Cuba and the Bahamas and looked like it was staying out to sea. None of that means I am smart, just damn lucky.
I'm writing this now on my couch with my house and roof intact. Kim and Ev are napping and the eye is north of us.
We don't have power and probably won't for a good while. But water is running and we have plenty of supplies. Was never at risk for flooding.
I'll be back to the reporter gig tomorrow and will surely have some stories to tell once home from work. Storm surge will not have been friendly to downtown St. Augustine.

Good news. I was worried when the National Hurricane Center website went offline for a while yesterday, but I suppose it could have simply been overloaded.
