Sanskrit Chandamama Archival Issues Please

Folks,

Wondering if anyone of you kind souls have downloaded the archives of Sanskrit Chandamama, and would be willing to share the PDFs (or whatever format). The magazine is defunct for all practical purposes, and none of the website or telephone numbers work, as you may know. CDs of archival issues of English/Telugu are floating around on ebay, but alas none Sanskrit.

Any other suggestions would be most welcome.

Quite coincidentally, just today I was noticing that two issues are online:

1. Just 5 days ago, someone has uploaded the July 2012 issue to the Internet Archive: https://archive.org/details/Chandamama0712_Sanskrit

2. The August 1996 issue is available as a set of photos here: https://plus.google.com/+SamskritaVahini/posts/9XoVoT35ydZ

I really hope more issues become available!

Hi,

I have Sanskrit Chandama right from 1984 to 2006 as PDF eBooks, that was all available when the Chandamama site was working.

Its about 4GB+.

I am not sure how I can share this.

Any good torrent site that I can upload?

Dropbox has a traffic limit. My account got banned when I shared some documents in my website publicly. I had to request them to unblock later.

That is why I am wondering if there is any better way.

Kāryakartas of Samskrita Bharati have digitised some Chandamama copies. Unfortunately, the scanned images have not been collected into pdfs.
@SriKanth, could you put it up on archive.org? Or mass upload it somewhere convenient to you, and I shall uploaded them on Archive.

I have both jpeg images and PDF. I spent few nights to convert all the jpeg files into one PDF per month.

I don't know about the copyright stuff, although the Chandamama was owned by a company Geodesic and that company was closed by court for financial problems.

I will upload to archive.org but it will take some days as its more than 4GB.

Meantime, I am more than happy to share, if you are in Bangalore, please email me.

If it is not too time consuming, it would be nice if the original
jpegs are also uploaded as zip/rar files. PDF format is convenient,
but nowadays most software has the option to directly read the jpegs
from zip/rar files.
I am not an expert, but I wonder if there was any loss of image
quality while converting the jpegs into pdf.

Thanks a lot for the first four uploads. But, there are no more uploads after 1987 issues. Please continue at archive.org or some other place convenient to you.

If you have a google drive account, you could upload the entire dump of e-books there, and make the link public... No hassles of server space running low, and always available for others...

If you need more space, I'd be happy to share it on my google drive ( I have 8 GB free)... If you have a DVD of the entire ebooks, you could post it to me ( I too am from Bengaluru).

Please note the following points and tips:

1. There may be copyright problems in distributing / serving thee copies out in the open.

2. However, if you want to share among a limited close circle, there is a much better way:

a. Open a new Gmail account. (each new one has a 15 GB capacity).

b. Create a Folder within the Google Drive from this account. You may also create subfolders within this per issue or per year..

c. Upload the contents to these folders in Google Drive (while logged in as this new Gmail ID).

d. After this, share this folder / folders to any number of known persons. Keep the access as "Viewers" (Not editors), that was not one person will know with whom else these docs are shared.

e. Avoid publicly accessible URLs.

I have kept a few terrabytes of my personal data in this way using a multitude of Ids (each one pertaining to a particular topic / subject). It is also easy for searching within the content of this, once they are all shared to your real original ID. In the GMail search box itself, you can use search terms. This is even much more efficient than searching the local folders within your computer. [You can search for 'text' even within the contents, not just by the file names).

3. Please consider me too, when you share. I too am quite eager to get them! :)

I tried downloading the PDF files, but strangely, even though the file seems to be an appropriate size (18-19 MB), all it shows as is white pages.

I tried downloading individual files, as well as the complete 1988 zip file (~245 MB). Same problem!

Could you let me know what could be the issue? Am I doing something wrong?

A minor problem in there only in 1989 uploads, where archive.org is showing 2 sets of pdfs. Please see the following pdf.

It is possible to edit or delete one's uploads, or add new files to an existing page at archive.org. You have to login to archive.org for this.

I think while uploading 1989, my internet connection went down and had to resume and start over the download later. 
May be thats why you see 2 pdf files. 

I dont seem to have any control over the uploads I did after they are available publicly. 
I cant even able to add a few more tags to those files. There are no options I could find so I can clean up.

I left it as long as its available publicly.

After I login I go to the "My Library". I see Uploads, Posts and Collections. None of the three sections have all my uploaded items.

Strangely it shows only Chandamama 1988, 1989, 1990 and I get Edit option only on these.

For other uploads like 1984-1987, I myself do a search in archive.org and see the files are available or not. In these files I don't get Edit option. I am using only one user id for uploading all these.

Hello SriKanth,

Actually, I went through all the files, and I found that in many PDFs, it shows as 150+ pages. The first 70 pages or so are blank, but then after that, the entire magazine is displayed properly. I got mislead when I skipped through the first 20+ pages, which were completely blank.

Looking forward for more such uploads from the year 2001 to 2006 also. Mr. Bhargava Ramakrishna has done a great job. I have downloaded and found a few issues are not opening. I will come back after verifying all issues. Meanwhile, I expect that Mr. Bhargava will take care of remaining years' issues too.
