My Introduction

Hello Everyone,

My name is Ashley Proctor and I am hoping that this is an appropriate place for an introduction. I have been asking the around software community about joining an open source project and was referred to the Sahana-Eden project by Trishan de Lanerolle. I am a 2nd year SWE Graduate Student at Southern Poly in Georgia. I have transitioned from an undergrad in Psychology. I work as a Graduate Assistant for beginner to advanced Java programming course where I grade and mentor student projects. I have done a few private projects in C# Windows Forms and a couple of arcade games using C#'s XNA framework. I have done one project in python using the scribbler robots using infrared interference for robot maneuvering. As you can see, my skill set definitely has room to grow! It would be a pleasure to contribute to an open source project with the skills that I have and hopefully while working on the project pick up a few new tricks along the way.

Hi Ashley, welcome :)

You're right that you'll need to learn a bit to get productive, but if
you have the time/motivation then the rewards are to be found :)

Hey Ashley,

Welcome to the community! Don't worry - I hadn't ANY Python before Sahana Eden  - I'm sure you'll be fine!

The tutorial in the book which Fran shared is definitely the best place to get started (A wee bit concerned that there could be a few things which aren't fully up-to-date in the book - so don't be afraid to ask if you get stuck).

After that you might want to start looking at tasks to work on here:
