Hi everyone,

The SAA are requesting a 1 page flyer (8.5 x 11; can be front and back) about our interest group to help to increase awareness. They will print the flyers and display them at the SAA Annual Meeting exhibit booth and at other events. Digital versions of the flyer will be posted to the SAAweb.

I've whipped up a quick draft for this flyer (attached), and I'd be most grateful for suggestions about what we need to have on it. Please don't hold back, no suggestion is too small!

By the way, what a delight to see the prominence of scripted analyses in the CAA sessions (http://2018.caaconference.org/sessions/). Well done to Benjamin Davies, Iza and the ISAAKiel group for helping to make that a normal part of doing archaeology!

thanks,

Ben

Hi Ben, hi everyone,

I would suggest to use a QR code for the paper, since the first page of
it seems to be not really readable.

Looking forward to meet you in Tuebingen!

Best regards,

Dome

I like the general style, but I think that first page is really over crowded - especially in the "activities" sections. I would suggest reducing the amount of text and ensuring proper amounts of whitespace to enhance readability. The text also needs to be auto-hyphenated if it's going to be fully justified - those large gaps in the sentences make it really hard to read. The logos in the 'Tools for Archaeological Scientists' area seem slightly too big for the space. While it's nice to have some of these, I would suggest that they could be cut (or reduced by 1/2) to free up space and make the flyer more readable. I agree that QR code would be a user-friendly, easy/good way to get that non-standard OSF URL in peoples' bookmarks lists, and it could be put in the space that is currently occupied by the software logos. There also needs to be more space between the "reproducibility spectrum" figure and the text above it. As it is, it runs together and is not easy to separate the text inside the figure from the paragraph above it...

On the second page, we could move some of the software logos to the bottom left corner, freeing up that space by only showing the top half of our Archaeological Record paper (with its 48 wonderful coauthors!).

Thanks everyone for your feedback (on- and off-list). We also got some feedback from the SAA. The final version will look something like the attached. I couldn't incorporate all of you excellent suggestions due to time constraints, hopefully next year we can take another shot at it and refine it a bit more.

Looks great, Ben! The less-cluttered front page is now much easier to read, and I think there is now a better balance of content between the front and the back. Plus the awesome QR code! :)
