Hi,

I've searched a bit for this error, and I think you've dealt with it before, so I just wanted to check if you ever found any solution or cause for it?

This thing appeared just a few days ago out of nowhere. The frames will eventually be produced but the failure rate is very high so a lot of frames get rendered a couple of times, doubling or tripling the render time. When submitting to a single computer this doesn't seem to happen, and with different sequence divide settings I sometimes get lucky and get an error-free render.

If I manually divide a sequence among several write nodes and set min division to 0, they happily render side by side at the same time, but as soon as I submit a regular job where RR is supposed to figure out the division, I get these errors from Nuke; "can't rename .tmp to final" and it keeps re-rendering the files wasting a lot of time. We've set all the folder permissions just to be sure it wasn't that. Nuke is launched from a central location on the file server in case that matters.

I'm waiting for an answer from Foundry's support, figured I should ask here as well in case you have any clues.

Cheers!

Hi

You do not render any .mov or .avi files, right?
Then RR should not have any problem with the distribution of the frames.
Which RR  version do you use?

Please select the job in rrControl and export a debug info of that job.

We're rendering to EXR's, and it works fine if I manually submit 6 parallel jobs where each job has its own part of the sequence, I can't figure out how that would be different to submitting like regular and have RR do the division, so it's quite strange. Foundry support suggested using the --safe flag, but there's no difference.

RR version is 6.02.50, but I can't get the upload site to work, I can select the file but I can't tell if it's uploading or not, nothing happens, there's no "send" button or similar to press. Any other way to send the file? It's 1.3MB

Here's what it looks like, on pretty much every Nuke job since last week!

God damn it, I found the cause, but I can't explain the behavior it caused.

Just noticed that the command line string submitted has "-I sample=8" attached to the end, which is a Mantra command and should not have been tacked on, and when I remove it it goes back to working like expected. Strange effects, for Nuke, -i means use interactive license instead of render license. Why it failed to rename .tmp files because if that, I can't understand.

Sorry about the hullabaloo Holger, I guess the coast is clear!

The website http://www.royalrender.de/upload_r.php
requires flash. And I got one report that it does not work with chrome.
And Firefox blocked the second to last flash version since a week.

Ah, fine.

Where have you added the "-I sample=8" flag?
To the submitter presets? If you have, then remove it there and put
the same line it into the mantra render config.
Or add a custom checkbox at the rrSubmitter (you can even have a value
spinbox to change the 8), check the Softimage render config for all
CODisableDisplace you find in there.

Yes I did, but I figured it was fine because I set the checkbox next to the commandline field to be unchecked by default, so I assumed it wouldn't be added unless I checked the box. Seems it was tacked on regardless for all jobs!

Should I edit A70__Mantra_StdA.cfg ?

Yes, the mantra config is right.
Then it will only be visiable if you have mantra jobs in your rrSubmitter.
