Welcome to the group.  Build the tank first...then add all the bells and whistles.  :)  You will find that a lot of people have big ideas for gadgets and never end up even finishing the tank.  :)

post one or two photos to the mailing list, along with construction
details, as you build various parts.

Well that depends where you are in Denmark. I have friends I visit way up north in Als and Oster Hurup, so I could possibly bring a tank over one year.
Of course I'd have to FIX my tank first . . .

Looks great so far! I've always been a big fan of the T-34  :)
Nice suspension setup! but I've a small consideration:
Do you think the suspension arms will hold the torsion by the offset of the wheels? I think it's going to bend easily.
I had some issues with it in the past :)

Sam.

A littel more pogress, this time om my tracks.
I have made ca 1 meter track for mesuring , but all steel er redy. But i will make the wheels before i make more track.
I startet with a ½*5/16 chain with taps on both sides. Then i rivetet my steel plates on, for every 2 i also put a small piece of 1mm steel, i will bend the ends up, to create some suport for the roadwheels

Impressive work,
I have been following your build with much interest.
I agree with Sam and strongly suspect that your 2mm swing arms will bend at some point due to all the power your tank will have. swing arms need to cope with considerable forces and I would use 6x20mm mild steel as a minimum. the weakest point will be at the pivot.
keep up this very good effort.

I have a question , what is holding the discs together whilst you router them into circular wheels  ? And did you make a jig to hold all the parts of the wheel in line as they are assembled ? when ever I have attempted what I can see you are doing, me wheels have "wobble" built into them. I have had to do conriderable sanding afterwards to correct my mistake.

I think you might want to introduce some steel to your wheels since you have wooden wheels and metal track guides. the guides will "eat" the wheels within a short amount of time, of at least mine did when I built T051
I made this out of an old bathroom cabinet  -

I will for start glue 3mm rubber on the wheels, and bend the guides a littel invards, so i hope to minimise the "eating". If that not enoug, i will add metal to the inside, of the wheels.
I glued all the big and smaal wood parts together, and i had them all on a 8mm threaded rod while the glue was drying-All 10 wheels on one threaded rod, and a nut in each end.

Both tanks looking good.

Loric,

I think the JP needs a slight adjustment of the front suspension so that the front of the tank sits a little lower, but that's just my opinion.  I know it would make it harder to climb things, but it would make it look much more like the real thing.  I kinda have a problem with wanting my tanks to look too much like the real thing instead of a tank that gets hit with paintballs... :)

Neils,

Do you have a pic of one of the suspension mounts from the inside?  I couldn't see enough detail in the video to see how you did them.  Thanks.

Hi Neil,

What about my question on rubber to plastic glue?

To answer your questions:
1. We purposely made the tank sink "backward". But this video was made with a 74lbs tank, while when all the equipment will be added, it will be closer to 150lbs. At that time, it will sit more "flat"
2. The suspension system is a "pending patent". I'm waiting for the patent number to be issued to start publicizing the way it works. It is VERY SIMPLE. Please remember that we are a "business". We are trying to take the "engineering" out of building fun...

Cheers from rainy Utah

I might ask Frank to open a new section of the site called "What Neil expects" I have been spending large amounts of time teaching pre teenage tankers and as a consequence my manner maybe becoming somewhat condescending. Id like nothing more than to introduce such a regime to rctankcombat, whereas anyone lacking behind in construction, (in my opinion) will become my subject for criticism. obviously in a constructive manner, or some other manner of my choosing.
Any message dated 28th January (or any other date) predicting FTF progress was merely a prediction and therefor can not fall within the rules stated above.

Please don't take this as being critical because I think you are doing an excellent build.  Just keep an eye on those motor mounts.  They look a little weak.  If they start to flex at all, you will want to make them stronger.  Any flex will eventually lead to breaking.  Had it happen to me in my M113 build.

Now a littel chance in my plans for my tank!! The watercooling are out! The ESC`s that i want to use are not good enough, so now i will use ESC`s from cars-With reverse :-)
The problem are that the Boat esc`s that i have, dont have propotional reverse funktion-They just give full trottel when i will go reverse-I can chance that down to 25% full trottel-But that are not sutabel for a tank.
That "mal"funktion, cost me my first damage to my tank :-(  In a motor test, outside, the tank sudently go full reverse in to the wall!  But damage where small: the front aksel bent a littel (about 3 mm) I can fix that-No damage to the hull :-) and then the rear spocket, that are sitting on the rear main aksel, got loose. The spocket are secured to the aksel with 3 ps. of 5mm bolts, all countersunk about 2 mm into the aksel-They all got 2mm shorter!!  I think there are alot of power in my motors.
