Hello, I just built and configured the Wifi module to work with my RC2014 Classic II. I am able to connect to the RC2014 via telnet, but when I type the characters are getting duplicated in an odd way, and there seem to be some character mapping problems (e.g., the Enter key causes ^M to be printed). Has anyone seen anything like this before, and have ideas to fix it? Thanks very much.

What are you using to telnet?  A client like Putty, Terraterm, Minicom?  Or direct telnet from something like Linux?  Seems you may have characters being echoed back.
Control-M is a carriage return.  Windows and DOS treat EOL differently.  I am sure someone will have a better answer for you.

I'm using OSX's built-in telnet client.

If you connect to the ESP config page over wifi, there is a setting there that will turn off local echo. That should prevent whatever you type being echoed back to you.

Built in?  I had to install telnet on my Macbook Air with homebrew.  It was not already there as telnet is not recommended for many uses.

I have that module, and I had a heck of a time getting it to work reliably. Important: THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE MODULE. The issues are with the modern variants of telnet (putty on my Windows pc and terminal on my Mac). They are fine programs but were not set up to work with the ESP8266 "out of the box".

I fiddled endlessly with putty and never got it to "work" well - seeing odd characters and linefeeds not functioning as expected. In the end I downloaded and installed TERRATERM. It works. Using it I can actually connect to the WIFI module and even use ED to enter a program, something I could never do with putty or mac terminal (or even iterm).

Now what's funny is the iterm2 on the mac is the best overall terminal program I found to work with SIO1 (I have the dual SIO card so SIO2 talks to the ESP8266). I can do anything I want with iterm2 on my mac with SIO1 and the USB/tty dongle, such that it's my primary interface to the RC2014 (blue box).

I have mine set up so when it boots (cold boot for example) it goes to the ESP8266 WIFI and I connect using Terraterm to boot to CPM or ZDOS. Once booted and set up, I then transfer control using stat from con: to uc1: and then work from the iterm2 in my mac mini.

I did have to play with settings to get terraterm to properly function with linefeeds and such, but at least terraterm HAS those settings that did seem to work for me, unlike putty whose settings just never seemed to fix things.

The only reason I don't use ONLY terraterm over WIFI is that there are just enough occasional 'hiccups' that I prefer the solid SIO connection to my mac mini.
