Well priced, I got $1800 for the new one I had all built up. That one was ridden maybe 3 times, I still have my first Bleriot.  Good luck

I still have my 57 and commute on it regularly.  For my money, the Bleriot was one of the best riding bikes Rivendell has ever produced - comfortable, nimble, room for wide tires, and really beautiful - and it's a pity they don't make it anymore.

I like the decals. One of the best ever on their bikes. Very creative.

I still have my original Nleriot, the only Riv I kept after back surgery.  Still unable to ride but not ready to part with it.  I agree it is the best riding Riv that I have had.

I love how the metallic finish is so bright in the daylight.
I wish RBW would go back to metallic finishes. Gives the colors a nice depth that flat does not.

My RBW Blue Cheviot is metallic, and I'm pretty sure the grilver on several recent Rivs is, too. As was the bronzey green Cheviot and Clem L.

I love mine, even though it doesn't get ridden enough.  Just joining the party to sing Louie's praises.  Best of luck with the sale!

At the risk of further taking this thread off topic (but at least it keeps a FS post active!), I decided to treat my Travelo (Bleriot Protovelo) to a rehab at Waterford. Absolutely worth the money because it is such a great bike. Results attached. Will post more photos to Flickr when I pick up the frame and build it back up.

RonaTD,

Love the paint job. Metallic in bike paint is so nice looking in the sunshine!! Your color does remind me of root beer! Very nice. Looks great against the decals!

Can you confirm if your protovelo originally had bleriot decals and if the tubing/geo specs are the same as the production models? I see it has two sets of rack barrels on the seatstays. I have never seen that on a bleriot.

The frame originally had Protovelo decals and a clear powder coat finish, and I cannot confirm that tubing and geo are same spec as production. I can, however, confirm that it rides just like the production Bleriot I tried at RBW. It was thanks to that ride that I was able to buy a 57 with confidence, having previously been a "55" guy for a long time. I ride it with a slammed 90 degree stem (a take-off from a '92 Bridgestone XO-1!) and it is a perfect fit. The rack mounts were added by Bilenky when they installed the S&S couplers.

Photo attached shows it in Olympia, on my ride from Seattle to Portland last summer.

Rona TD,
How did you like the clearcoat?
They always look cool.
But I have read some complaints about them not wearing well. How was it for you? Nice idea for the extra braze-ons!

The clear coat held up quite well over 10 years, including several years where I was commuting regularly on it, including winter (lots of salt used to control icing here). The areas that had been painted as part of the coupler installation on the down tube had started to bubble a bit, but that’s where a lot of salty grime accumulates in winter riding. One of the things I liked about clear coat for a travel bike was that the inevitable scratches were well hidden. Hopefully the new paint job will hold up well. It won’t be doing winter commute duty, so that should help.

Ted, your “new” ProtoBleriot is going to be stunning! Looking forward to seeing pics of the finished bike.

I came to the Rivendell party after the Bleriot was out of production. Tried to buy one locally but the seller was waffling on the sale and backed out.

Still one of my favorite Rivendells.

Regards,
Richard
