My wife hounds me every ride so when I saw this it made me think maybe others need a reminder.  Today was the first truly beautiful day we have had so far this year in MA.  Been a cool-cold spring.

Regarding sun protection, I recently bought a DaBrim for my helmet from Adventure Cycling Assoc.  It's unobtrusive and really effective at keeping the sun (or rain!) off of my face, neck and ears.  I felt a very slight effect from the wind on descents, but nothing that impaired my balance or bike handling.  It's really easy to install and remove from my helmet.

As someone who has had around 20 cancers surgically removed and dozens of others frozen off I’m with your wife. If you don’t take precautions now you will pay later. My Irish ancestry is telling me I don’t belong in SoCal.

Australian here. I work outdoors. I never wear shorts or short sleeves outside, always gloves that cover the backs of my hands. Hat is not optional. Autumn/Winter/Spring is cycling season.

Luckily only had one cancer scare. It was enough.

I see people like Ultra Romance looking like a buttered turkey and it makes my skin hurt.

When I was a kid, back in the ‘60’s, we’d bake with Bain de Soliel. I see the dermatologist yearly, so far just minor things frozen off.  My wife is Brazilian so she is very concerned about the sun.  Her place in Brasil is surrounded by 43 beaches.  When there we walk the beach but never sunbath.  As a kid I grew up in Far Rockaway, NY, the poor man’s beach.  I always burned so I never sat in the sun that much until my late teens and early 20’s.  Then to St. Louis to grad school, no beaches and the summers were brutal, and yes, I tried to tan but 20 minutes in that heat was all I could take.  I jogged very early and rode my bike in Forrest Park.  I do the sunscreen thing before I rode, always wear gloves.

Today was our first taste of summer, tomorrow should be the same so I am hoping for a nice ride...... I’m still in long sleeves do to the coolness when I go out, soon the heat will come.
