Ok now I know that rim brakes are fine now I need to about fit.  I have a 56cm sam but I consider it a bit large.  Looking at the geometry (older Hunq) the 54 cm look about th e same but it does have the bullmoose bar not drops.  I think it is a good price point of $1500.00 whole bike.  Should I just spring for it and stop over analyzing??

a 56 sam and 54 (older geo) hunq are similarly sized. I had both at the same time, for a short period. the top tube on the 54 hunq is, or will feel, longer than the sam. I could not run swept back bars on the sam because it felt too cramped even with a long stem. I was able to run swept back bars, flat bars, albastache and drops on the hunq, as long as i shortened the stem respectively for each.

without seeing it, i would say that 1500$ for a complete hunq is a very good price.

Neither, I got a 650b Atlantis in Hunqapillar green. Best of both worlds.

54cm Hunq is a great bike. I've run 38mm through 55cm tires on it and I think its ride is fantastic no matter how little or how much you load it up. Go for it!

Did not buy it.  I was looking for riv with a slightly smaller frame than my 56cm Sam.  Turns out the 54 hunq is alost identical in frame size as the 56 sam so I declined.  The guys ebay name is tattoo.jesse.
Good Luck!!

Hey Bruce, PMed you. I'm into that bike and didn't expect the price to fall within my grasping range. It's graspable now, but I'm not going to take that (very long) drive and steal it from ya. Let me know if you're going to buy it.

No worries, I bought that baby! This is a Holy Grail Riv for me, I've wanted one forever but it's never quite worked out. It worked out!

You won't regret that. I bought one when it was first introduced. I use it for everything. I loved it so much I had to have the lighter version and bought a56 Sam the next year. I've been at N+0 for years since. I use Bosco's on both and love them.

Fix that front brake cable/hanger interfacing before you ride it!

LGF: Haha, I noticed the brake cable right after I posted the pic. I haven't even ridden it yet, I'll get everything properly dialed and outside for proper photos (and riding!) when this smoke finally clears.

Rich: I still want a Roadeo! Finding a Hunqapillar definitely wasn't the plan right now - I was almost at N+0 just a couple weeks ago! - but I'd been watching this one on CL and Ebay for a while, and had no idea it would ever drop to $1500. That's an offer I cannot refuse, my friend 😬

Six months?? Hehe, let's see how the sizing works out. It's in the 'one size up' zone like my Roadini, which wouldn't be a good choice for the serious mountain biking it's designed for, but should be good as the cruiser/shopper I'm gearing it towards. I'll probably put Billie Bars on it, so I'm thankful for those way-too-long brake cables.. that worked out, eh?

They'll be swapped for XTR trigger shifters, but check out those Campy dt levers on a Hunqapillar!

Joe, if I didn’t already have an Atlantis I’d buy your Hunq:-)))

Warning: If you like it as much as I like my Atlantis then this may be your keeper.

Enjoy!

Joe -
Let me add my voice to the Hunq chorus - it's a really remarkable machine and I hope you enjoy yours as much as I've enjoyed mine.  It's not for racing, and it certainly goes downhill much faster than it goes up, but it's an amazingly comfortable bike that's perfect for aimless rides of any distance.  It'll also pack stuff better than a 49er's mule.  If I could make one recommendation: give thought to buying a Jones Loop bar (https://www.jonesbikes.com/h-bars/); it's the perfect handlebar for the Hunq.
All the best,

Hoo wee, that's a nice bike! I popped a Brooks ti on Thomson post on there - no need for setback on this frame - and got out in the smoke (with mask) for a 'set the saddle height' ride. There's no standover to speak of for me with those tall tires, but it's sooooo nice while pedaling.

Here's a couple of sorry-no-sun pics. Hey, did you know Waterford sells touch-up paint for the Rivs they made/make? That big-ole chip will be covered in a couple weeks.

The rear derailer is RapidRise. Me trying to friction shift a Campy dt lever going the "wrong" way was highly amusing. I can't imagine I'll keep it that way, but the big-frame/low-saddle setup makes the reach not too bad..let's see how it goes. Worst case is I don't shift much and ride in a 'mock singlespeed' manner, which is a thing I recall Grant promoting at one time: shifting isn't right-at-hand-super-easy, so you just pedal pedal pedal. Sounds good!

John: It was only one short ride so I can't say much about them. They're *really* tall and I don't need all that volume, so I've already transferred them to a Bianchi Project-5 I'm going to put on Craigslist. If I ever finish it!

Love the Hunqs!  I'm having a hard time eye-balling the wheels on that model.  Are they 26"?

The 54cm Hunq is/was a 700c bike. At least mine is.

700c for the 54. The 2016 updates - boy, that didn't last long, eh? - were 53 and 56cm frames with 650B/27.5.

Great Hunqa, Joe! Don’t rule it out for single track fun. The larger frame may actually feel excellent on the trail, and the need for uber standover clearence is grosely exagerated in my experience.

With abandon,
Patrick, who rides a 62 Hunqabeam and 66 Quickbeam everywhere a bike can go and then some and whose bits and bobs have never been inconvenienced as a result.

I hear ya, Patrick. I used to underbike the singletrack at China Camp on my 55cm Romulus, so this should be fine for my plodding-along-slower-than-hikers style. The trick to avoiding clearance problems: fall sideways!
