It's also at 17 seconds but I just realized the video has been flipped. Notice what side of the bike the drive train is on....

Helmets? who needs em

Common man, you've got to realize absolutely zero people are going to be convinced to start wearing helmets based on comments in an online forum. So that comment serves as nothing more than derailing a potentially interesting conversation about a major brand like Levi's choosing to have bikes like Rivendell's in their marketing. Helmets are a personal choice, leave it at that.

Original Thread, original thread, original thread! If you want to veer off the topic of this thread, please consider changing the subject line.

I'm glad to see Rivendell included in the Bikes of the City image being presented. And also as part of the presentation of things and people that are strong.

Very cool video. Good eye to catch them, they're only there for a second.

I did not really notice the helmets so much as him blowing through a Stop sign! LOL

Still the most significant thing to me was . . . Levis making commuter clothing! To me that is pretty big, how much mass does cycling have to have for something like that to happen and does this bode well for the future or is it a blip?

Hah, I didn't notice that! Opening a real can of worms here lol.

The Levi's commuter line has been around for several years now. Probably not ten years yet, but getting close. They finally expanded to include women's clothing in the last year or two, and the line as a whole has expanded quite a bit recently. Sounds like they're in it for a while at least.

Wow - y'all got sharp eyes! I can't see it!

Ironic, in that Grant's "schtick" -- and this is not a value judgement; it's simply an observation of a fact -- has always been to buck trends; a "schtick" I find completely sympathetic. Perhaps then it's fitting that the Atlantis has so fleeting an appearance, the ad being entirely "conformist" in every way whatsoever that you analyze it (and the conforming culture has produced some good things; hipster jeans are better for riding than boot cuts).

(Segway [tm] to the other thread about street pants that aren't cycling specific: Once again, Target had the "E-waist chinos"on remainder for $20.)

Look at all the people (myself included) who carry messenger bags but don't work as bicycle messengers. I've bought a lot of stuff at Chrome stores, but I'll never use their products for the intended purpose.

Levis will probably sell a lot of this clothing to young hipsters.

Not just a young hipster product, I assure you! I know a lot of guys in their 50's and 60's here who love the jeans, and they're not all stick figure physique either. They have a nice amount of stretch, re-enforced in the saddle-area, and they wick away water nicely (that feature goes away over time if you wash them a lot).

well this has succeeded in making me take another look the products. i saw some in a store, several years ago, and was pretty turned off by the awkward gusset, padding/double thick areas, and a few other details that i thought defeated the purpose of a non-cycling cycling pant. from their page, it looks like they have ditched those aspects in favor of a more normal looking design, which is cool. i was gonna get some swrve pants, but i might try these instead.

I'm not a young hipster, but if this clothing were available in my size, I'd buy it. I pretty much only ride in leggings/jeggings because of comfort, stretch, and durability.

Just watched this, and was going to say again at the 17 sec mark. I
think she has it set up w/ straight bars.
Would be interesting to hear how that got into the video. If it's the
actor's personal bike, a production assistant's ride, if Levi's wanted
it, whatever.

In any case, someone has excellent taste in bicycles.  I must admit though without the head badge AND the heads-up to look for it, I certainly would have missed it.

I can partially answer that. The two people are a 'real life' couple. That is indeed her actual atlantis. I don't know her, but have stayed at the guys house on a motorcycle trip years back, as he was a mutual friend of a guy who was also staying with him at the time. That's sounds confusing... Point is, it's her atlantis. No idea how it got into the commercial though.

Apparantly there can be all kinda reasons why a prop gets into the picture in show biz. Sometimes arbitrary, sometimes not.

Back in the late '60's there was a group called the Peppermint Rainbow. One of the singers told me that they were on a CBS TV show doing their song "Will You be Staying After Sunday?".

They were using all Fender instruments even though in real life some of them played other instruments. But since CBS was the TV network, and CBS also owned Fender instruments at the time, CBS told them they had to use Fender stuff.

Not surprised, they all look very comfortable on their bikes... like
they've been riding them for quite a while! If you ever hear any of
the back-story for the development of it, please pass it along!
