Check out Grant's Blahg for a neat sort-of-a contest. You have to write on paper and send in a real envelope. With a real stamp!

Some of those questions are real headscratchers...that's all I'll say. Fun , though

I just mailed mine in.  It's not going to score that well, but it was a fun bit of nostalgia.

Did you answer every question? I'm not entirely clear how this works, I don't watch Jeopardy.

Joe,  I did try to answer every question.  The were some I did not know the answer to, so I made something up.  I wrote the title of the category, and listed my answers in the same order as the questions (clues).  I hope that is sufficient for the contest.  I did not rewrite everything.  In the actual game of "Jeopardy!" an answer to a question is given, and players must guess at the question which would be answered by the clue.  Thus, all the 'answers' for this game must be phrased in the form of a question.  For instance, if the clue is "The founder of Rivendell Bicycle Works," the answer is: "Who is Grant Petersen?"  It takes some getting used to.

That was hard! I feel pretty good about most of my answers - it helps greatly to have been around from the beginning - but one completely stumped me. It was great fun.

Now that took some head scratching!  As promised, some of the clues were a bit fuzzy.  As often happens whenever I think I've done well, I've probably made some silly blunders.  But hey, made me dig out some ancient sources & re-read some interesting articles from the good old days of paper.  Loads of fun.

I also ended up feeling pretty good about most of these, except one!

I wonder if Grant will post the answers? I'm extremely curious over here.

And for the interested, we're talking about the thing at the end of this post:

One day left!

there was one I did not have a hot clue about...did the quiz but haven't sent it in ...may not make the cut. I'm curious about the answers though...because there were 2  others I couldn't figure out either....and I admit there was 1 other I had to Google...except for these 4 I think I did ok

If I can ask this without generating guesses to the quiz, was everybody stumped by "buckwheat" ? That's the one where I threw in the towel. I just want to know if it stumped you, not the answer to the question itself.

Yes, that one was obscure, and I think it was the only one I didn't have an answer for, so got really intrigued by the hint.  I finally got it but it's one of those "ancient history" answers.

Just realized I didn't keep a copy.  Talk about blunders!

I think I got that one.     Actually, most I was solid on, but then there were a few that I was looking at, thinking at first that they were the same answer, but then a little more thinking came up with better answers... that left me down to two to ponder on for a bit...  one of them just hit me finally after mulling it over for a day; but the other, well...   I think I came up with an answer that is 'right' but don't know if it's 'the' answer that is expected...

I am eager to see the results....

Years ago there was a Noodle-shaped exactly handobar with a bulge, not a sleeve in the middle, and it weighed like 60g less, so we called it a superlight Noodle bar, and it WAS a noodle by bend, and we named it after a Japanese (since it is made by NITTO) buckwheat noodle. Not Udon, which is wheat..but the brownish skinny brothy soup slurpy noodle...which I tried to live on in my early years of non-low carb eating on my trips to Japan. That was the -opardy answer that stumped the most.

I've asked others here to come up with theirs--bike related or not--and Dave is working on a toughy now. Too tough. Like Genuine Jeopardy tough. It'll go up early next week.

Great! Can't wait for more. I've been in dire need of mental and/or intellectual and/or comedic distractions the last few days. SNL has been particulaly helpful. Happened across this clip yesterday, which might help explain the rules to those unfamiliar with the game. Good for a laugh, if nothing else. (Not political, but not for those easily offended -fyi.)

Looking forward to the answer key, if there is one. I think I got the buckwheat one answered correctly, but was stumped by a bar that "sounds both high carb & low car, and we don't sell it anymore".  I mean, I thought of a bar that fits that description — It is the bar I ride on the most, but I'm pretty sure Riv does still sell it. Lotsa fun though!

That one got very convoluted for me. I missed the buckwheat question, and now realize I used that answer for "high carb, low carb". Doh!

Clue should've been high carb / low carB--not "car". And it's a bar we don't sell anymore. Dove bar. Meat (if a real dove), and ice cream / chocolate confection for the high carb.

Buckwheat was SOBA bar.

I'll try to post the key--need roman's help converting excel file to JPEG. Internet was helpful for non-mac, but I'm on mac. I'm sure it's easy, but I've had it with trying, so I'll get Roman to show me.

sorry for the missing B!

Ha! Doubtful I could have gotten to Dove bar even with the extra B.

I went with Noodle since it could be considered "low car", i.e. Noodling around instead of driving. It's a stretch.

Hmmm. In the end, I only got 2 wrong, and I like my wrong answers almost as much as the actual ones. In addition to my above-mentioned reference to the dicontinued Dream Bar, did you know that the Saluki breed of dogs is genetically closer to their wolf ancestors than any other domestic breed? I learned that little tidbit while getting the Romulous answer wrong.

I did the same, for exactly the same reason. Didn't see the Dream Bar for sale on the site, thought it was a winning answer.
I marked SOBA as being possibly in the wrong category, but "models" might only imply bikes, and strictly speaking there could be models of bags, bars, etc...

In 2016 I decided to re-read all the readers, I'm up to RR28 right now, so I had an advantage.

I thought I got all of them right but Grant's posted answers disagreed with 3 of them. STI is clearly wrong (it was SIS). 26" was king of the American road from 1930 to 1960s, but I'll give them that it is not quite nearly dead (the industry is just trying). I might be wrong that 32° means holes instead of spokes.

I wikipedia'd Buckwheat and recognized Soba instantly as I have one on my Ram. I thought it might be Dove as high carb but the girlfriend who has a dove on her San Marcos made the squab connection and helped with the MUSA connection. Anyway I got a small store credit!

Dream was good, probably acceptable given the "low car.." clue, instead of carb.

tree to bike: MY answer was cork, but rubber (one person)--that's as good or better!

snap prone fork is carbon, but one sharpshooter had aluminum, and...kind of works, too.

if I were a dumb millionaire (for the record, even if I accept "dumb" I don't qualify!)-- answer was 603, but there could be other answers

favorite answer was "bandana" for equally good undies for hobo or billionairre. I meant wool, but hard to not like bandana.

required for car but not for bike: could be many things. I'd intended disc brakes, but there were 6-7 other answers that worked--speedometer, rear view mirror, glove box (marginal, since Ford won't get sued if they didn't include one)..

Only one response so far to Dave's Roughy Toughy Semi-Genuine one. I flunked it, but there's a dead-eye amongst you who either missed zero or two, depending on how Dave grades it...which goes back to his experience in school, whether he jogged left or right.

I got SIS, which easily gives my age away. I guessed 26 x 1-3/8 for "dead wheel size", too, which is silly because I know some department store scrap metal still uses them. Whoops!

I immediately gave up on Dave's Riveopardy. I'm all out of the smarts!
