I've been wanting to do something special with a Clem.  Here's a little write up about a build I just finished.  I like it. A lot.

More pics on my Insta here.  https://www.instagram.com/a1cyclery/

Thanks!

Chris, I like your Clem a lot. Looks like it can do anything you'd ask it too. Well done!

Best,
Rich in ATL

Love it! I agree, the Clem is very versatile -- I'm currently reconfiguring mine from a mild-mannered getting-qround bike to something more MTB-ish.

Nice!  I can tell this bike's itching for serious action!

Looking at the configuration I'm guessing relative to PBH, either your torso or arms are longer!

I greatly dislike bikes with too-long (relative to me) top tubes, since I like to place my bar exactly were I want it without reference to reach from saddle, which is one of my constants. Probably the best fitting "off-shelf" frame I ever owned was a 60 c-c X 56.5.* But I must say that the photo is appealing, what with that long top tube and tiny stem and hugely flared bar.

I'll be interested to hear how comfortable it is in the long term

* When I have bikes built, I generally choose shorter seat tubes, for various reasons, and make up the difference with seatpost, head tube, top tube angle, and stem. But this Herse just fit right away, with hardly any adjustment, when I bought it from the previous owner.

Yes, nicely done! I have similar hopes for an eventual rebuild of my 65cm Clem H. I previously acquired a Crust Leather drop bar (from their first run of those ridiculously wide 66.6cm drops) and a 26.0 zero/0mm reach (w)right stem from Analog cycles to pair with said bars. These were both initially intended for another frame but with multiple bike projects now on hold (for various reasons) I’ve been thinking I’ll save these for the Clem once my son outgrows the front child seat we are currently using. At that point I’ll build up another rear loaded dad bike and start from scratch and overhaul the Clem beginning with the Crust bars, Analog stem, spare tektro vbrake/long pull drop levers and the stock v brakes.

Enjoy!

That's very nice! I briefly experimented with dirt drops on the Clem (with a 100mm Nitto Dirt Drop stem), but found that the reach was maybe an inch too long even with my proportionally-crazy-long torso. Your idea of an Analog stem is interesting, though - that might be just the thing for a re-try of the idea... Good times!

Freakishly long torso relative to my height.

Sounds like a solid plan.  Talley ho!

Given my torso length, I look for bikes on the opposite end of spectrum.  The longer the top tube the better.  I'm interested in the long term comfort as well.

Ride on!

Love it!  Dirt drop setup is great if you can get the right height and the reach works.  I have OG WTB Dirt Drops on my BMC right now.  Love the ride.

Hell yeah! You've satisfied my need to see a clem with a dirt drops. I'm calling it a dirty clem.

Awesome! Looks like a Hellava good time. I want to do that, but the Clem being my only bike (for now) I’ll have to wait. I love my boscos.

Saw this last week and it's even better looking in person. The reach doesn't feel as long as it looks in the pics. Definitely seems reasonable even for people with average torso length. I love the build and I wish all my bikes were that mustard color.

Chris, I love the build. I was curious about the grips. What grips did you use, and do they go over the bar tape?  (I see photos with that set up, but I never see a bike like that in person so it's hard to tell.)

Hello Jim
the grips are Velo Orange Rustines.  I don't even know if they still do them.  I never found them good on Albas etc (loose fitting/too short), but they fit fine on the drops.  In this case there is no tape underneath.  I could have probably made that work, but just decided to take the short cut and start the tape where the grip ends.  The added benefit was that the grips are flexy enough that I could run the shift housing under the grip on the right side.

Thanks

Chris
