Had a fun little adventure tooling around eastern oregon for the last week or so. Made memories that'll last a lifetime. I rode my Homer, Tommy rode his Bombadil, Lady B rode her Surly CC. The route was improvised as we went. Our break heavy riding style kept our mileage at about 40 miles per day. It was enough to see some nice country and spend time with some good people.

Wonderful set of pictures of what looks like a wonderful ride.  Congrats!  The guys who bailed don’t know what they missed.

Looks like you had a great time. Fantastic country out that way. Thanks for posting the images. I've ridden out that way a few times myself, touring and randonneuring and I wouldn't hesitate to head out there again.

Smitty:

It looks like you have just done the Rivendell adventure ride we all dream about.  Decent distances, mixed terrain, well off the beaten path & figuring it out as you go along.  I've spent a lot of time in Oregon & recognize Fossil & others, but many are completely new.  That area has many small towns (really villages) & back roads so one could ride there for ages & never repeat.  Despite the late April date, lots of long pants, jackets &: I think perhaps a Pendleton shirt in one pic.  And nothing like pushing your bike thru snow.  Congratulations on an excellent trip & the photos to show the fun.

Andy, what a cool trip.  Lot's of cool Geology and beautiful backroads. I'd love to get up there and do a tour sometime.   My bucket touring list is overflowing.

Thanks all for the kind words. I highly recommend a trip to eastern OR.

We had frozen water bottles a couple mornings. The first couple days were cool but not bad when we got out of the wind. It warmed up as the week progressed. A couple afternoons were warm enough for shirt sleeves but long sleeves were the norm.

Homer handles great w/ 4 panniers. I've read complaints that loaded Hilsens can be squirrely but that's not my experience. Perhaps the 2tt is teh difference. The lowriders are stable on the front, although in the snow they bottomed out a few times.

Regarding randonneuring... our whole route was barely over 500k. Hard to imagine riding it in a day-and-a-half. But that's more my mental block than anything else.

cheers

Good old Tommy. I love seeing his shots of Oregon. Makes me wish I went up with him to Portland. Hope you know Andy that you Portlanders only have him on loan, California wants him back.
