Apologizes if this has been addressed in a Blug post or elsewhere but I'm just curious about extended lead times.

Is Waterford just slammed?

My understanding is that Wford is slammed but I also thought it had something to do with steel tubing supply...remember True Temper has elected to get out of the steel frame tubing business.I actually do not know what Roadeos,,HH, Hunqs or Atlantis bikes use for a tubing supplier but I assumed True Temper. When you ordered a custom you would get a breakdown (IME this was true for 1996 and 2001. Not so for the mixte, but I trust Grant knows well what he is doing)

However, on this forum , Grant posted something about having heat-treated and non-heat treated Silver tubing and that even though heat treating is a mythical benefit ; subject of a recent BLAHG ,for 2K+ bike frames made in the USA  heat treated tubing is specced. So maybe Wford bikes use a combo of  heat treated and non heat treated  Silver tubing

Just an educated   guess on my part

I was talking to someone who just received his Atlantis after ordering it in Jan or Feb; he said that the backup is due to Waterford's order book being very full.

It's the tubing issue. I have an Atlantis on order. Everyone at rivendell and waterford has been really upfront about the wait due to finding a replacement for the true temper they were using. I actually don't know what tubing they landed on, but my understanding is that they are back up and running. I ordered mine in July and I don't anticipate it arriving before christmas.

I ordered my Atlantis frame (56cm/650b) in late march, and it is due to arrive here tomorrow, so 6 months on the nose.  When I ordered it, riv estimated 4+ months for delivery, and they mentioned the squeeze in the tubing supply as the driver of the delays.

So, the wait was kind of a bummer, but it couldn't be helped, and now its all in the past!  I am very excited to assemble it and ride this weekend.  I ordered it without ever having ridden one.   I visited riv in August and rode their 56cm/650b Atlantis demo (that others on the list have mentioned riding), and I was a little taken aback at how nice it rode.  That only served to make the wait harder and increase the anticipation.

The long lead times aren't new. My 2.5 year old Atlantis was ordered in February and it wasn't delivered until September. In addition to their own frames plus Rivs and and I believe some other brands, I expect their production schedule requires a good bit of juggling.

What gunnar did you go for? I'm so close on pulling the trigger on a roadie. But carbon keeps calling me.

I had two composite seatposts break on me. I even used a torque wrench on the replacement SP and it still broke.

Davey and Belopsky: I owned a Gunnar Crosshairs. Nice riding bike; comfortable and stable. Clean tig welds. I only sold it to finance one of my Rivs.

One thing Waterford did to enhance the graphics, IMO, was to offer the smaller "panda" style Gunnar logo on the downtube. The original logo reminded me too much of the big box brands. I believe you'll enjoy the ride.

Best of luck,
Richard
