I'm hoping for enough iterations I end up calling it the RoadXO...  ;)

Out of the box yesterday evening - after a couple of calls UPS, and thinking I really need to start a daily reading of MEDITATIONS by Marcus Aurelius.
Out of the box everything was in good shape. I need to ask Will (at Rivendell) if I should have had grips in the box or now. No big shakes there as I've got a roll of CampAndGoSlow eastern rattler bar tape just for this bike.
Planning to ride it RivBike-stock for a little while. I'm recycling my Brooks B17, a Crane Bell, and eventually some fenders.
I got the MKS pedals new. A very short spin down the block in flip flops earned them 5 stars 'out of the box'.  I still need to pick up some bottle cages. I like the  Iris King cage deals, but they are sold out at RivBike. Probably I'll end up with just the silver Jim's cage from TANKA, maybe.  Oh, and I got a Count Von Count sticker for the bike.
Next iterations:
 - S-A 2spd kickback up (need to see if the cogs match between the stock wheel and my S-A)
 - Add my
  • Melvinator,
  • Shimano 600 FD,
  • Silver DT shifter, and
  • 44t chainring
- I'd like to go drop bar, I think. Maybe next spring. I've got a Surly SteamRoller set up fixed that's drop bar. So maybe I won't.
OK - that's it for now. I'll add a ride report when I go get this thing dirty. Probably Thursday or Friday when the get the Boss-Lady Permissions / Cataract Recovery Restrictions lifted.
cheers.

Get the bottle cages direct from the source at  https://kingcage.com
There's options, they're worth it, &c.

Grips, saddle and pedals are not included on the completes. All of the “touch points” are left to the user.
Mine is supposed to be here on Thursday - long way to Florida.

Ian - bottle cages on order!

Laing - <ROGER THAT>   -- I've installed the eastern rattler tape with my own particular.... "style".   Photos later this week after the maiden voyage.
Looking forward to pics of your new bike when you've got it ready.
I'm still trying to get used to the length of the head tube. I read the specs. Emailed Will. Gave him my PBH. I agreed with the 58cm frame sizing. I got a couple other bikes, and none has a head tube this tall.
The few short spins I was permitted from my lovely bride, it rides great! Can't wait to get a couple hours out & about. I flipped the bars before taping, as I have the stem all the way down presently. With the spacers, it looks like I could trim some steer tube length. Maybe next year after I have lots of time to think it over. That's a one way trip.

a couple other comments
 - The brakes seem pretty great. Not having heard of the brand I was only a little nervous. If I mis-remember reading somewhere the company makes TEKTRO long reach caliper brakes. So good stuff
 - The IRD levers are better than I expected. I've got a nice set of Paul Love Levers on my trail bike - and those set The Standard. The stock IRDs are barely a shade not as nice. The green anodizing is excellent shade of "I like that".

OK - that's it. For the moment.
cheers!

First Spin yesterday. 26 miles of dirt roads.
The stock - out of the box - set up is really nice. Mostly what I'm comparing to are: my '89 Panasonic MountainCat (26in wheels); my GUNNAR CrossHairs (rim brake'd version from 2019); and a Surly SteamRoller I ride fixed dirt and pavement.
Unfortunately I do not have the sensitivities of Jan Heine's...... hiney (i digress.... for the moment) - any-way - on my typical dirty road load with small pebbles, here and there ruts and copious potholes, I really love the ride. These tires are a bit fatter than the GUNNAR and SURLY clear. And the GUNNAR only recently got some #SuppleLife tires.

I love the look of these MKS gamma pedals. But I can feel why the RivBike folks added those wing-thing deals. These are narrow than I was expecting. I got wide size 12s.

I'm digging the bars. I slammed the stem and then gave it 1mm clearance to the top lock nut. Then angle the bars and lever to clear the top tube for the first time the bike falls over at the pub.... I mean coffee shop.
Probably I raise the seat a few more mm, slam the seat all the way back, and slightly raise the bars so I can tilt the bars down a bit more.
Oh - the bars, I flipped them upside down.

King Cages arrived right as I'm typing this. I'll post some Detroit City ride pics with those installed this weekend.

Cheers

All these Roaduno builds are giving me a serious case of FOMO....but seriously, I should be riding the bikes I have :)

That purple is growing on me and the stock bike with the personalized touches (sticker on seat tube and the rattlesnakey bar tape ) looks great. Yup those King Iris cages are so nice.

I'm glad you're enjoying the bike

Short ride and . . . education in assembly (?) update

The Rivendell instructions for assembling your bike are very clear - Grease the seat binder bolt. I'll post a photos later of the page. Just out of ... spite or something.
Any-waze, I didn't grease the bolt and the seat post slipped. In the physics of it all, it appears all a lot some the applied torque to the bolt is getting "lost" (not really lost, but for literary purposes.... I'm using the word lost) in friction - threads in the nylon lock nut, under the bolt head, maybe with the little washer deal. The applied torque is not going into clamping the post - -  well, a lot is. But a large enough portion is NOT. And I suspect with the paint, there is some creep** in the joint, so clamp force is being ....  "lost". This time, literally lost. Versus being literary before.  (ok - I'll move on as I'm getting a bit rambly as it's late)

So one of the members here said he had the same problem - the one with the seat post slipping due to not bolt greasing.  And I suspect the same problem of thinking he knows better than the instructions (like me....). He greased his bolt, and problem solved.
I greased my bolt, rode about 25 ish miles to go drink a beer and wait for bats to fly out of a barn while the sunsets.  And no slipping! Yay! Me! Yay following the instructions!

OK. That's it for now. Here's a pic as I'll probably always post pics if the beer can almost matches the paint job
