Ordered the upcoming homers. It would be nice to discuss ,bounce off ideas on the components planned for the build. Here is my list

Pace to brevet with shimano rear hub and SON 28.
RH Oracle ridge
Shimano nexave RD
RH 42-26 cranks
11-36 9speed cassette
Silver bar end shifters
Nitto noodle bars
Nitto technomic   50 mm stem
TRP rrl brake levers
Paul components racers

What’s are your thoughts ?any suggestions on the components ?if you have ordered one too how are you building it ?

Sounds like a dreamy build overall, and congrats on the frame purchase!

My thoughts:
- I think the Oracle might be ambitious, clearance-wise. Herse tires run bigger than most for their printed size, and add the knobs, and I'd be surprised if those fit.  I'd suggest their 42mm counterpart, Hurricane Ridge, unless they've increased clearance this round and I haven't realized.
- Gearing sounds dreamy but I'd just go 11-34 for the cassette so your Nexave is happier, and you've still got a real nice low gear.
- If you have a line on Paul Racers, jump on it because they are not up on the website anymore and might be tough to find. I am baffled that Paul pulled them from production, of all the brake options they offer.

I had a pair of Oracle Ridges on my side pull Sam for a short time.  Had to deflate the tires to get them past the brake pads on the Tektro 559s.  Off pavement they threw up a lot of small stones compared to The smooth treaded Snoqualmie Pass. The paint on the underside of the down tube took a beating.

Thanks for inputs . I was told by riv folks that oracle ridge would fit with Pacenti brevet rims . Will be on the look out for small stones being thrown up ( might use a clear tube protector ) . I have a spare snoqualmie , which I will swap in case it doesn’t work out .

I think I got those final few paul racers online !
I am thinking of swapping the brake lever to these diacompe non aero ( https://www.somafabshop.com/shop/product/gran-compe-brake-lever-set-gc202q-qr-2849?category=718) . Looks like they come with o ring for grips . Any experience with these ? Will the ergonomics and comfort suffer compared to trp rrls considerably ? I am not digging the looks of trp.

I had the Velo-Orange version on a build. ( https://velo-orange.com/collections/brake-levers/products/gran-compe-202-non-aero-brake-levers-drilled ).  They are very narrow, not at all like todays style of brake hood.  They also seem to work best with drop bars with a traditional shape/bend rather than the modern styles.  Mounted further down on the bend rather than up towards the ramps.

Not my bike but an example of traditional bar/brake lever.

I have the drilled VO versions on my Frank Jones SR on traditional Maes Bend Nittos. I went with NOS Weinmanns on my Custom because the are wider (on Randonneur bars).

Wow Liang! That's a very pretty bike. Those levers do look damn good! Now I have to decide between ergo and looks.  I keep hearing great thing about TRP RRLs but definitely prefer the looks of non aero levers...

Wow! I could just keep staring at those bikes forever. Very interesting placement of shifters. Looks like a good compromise between aesthetics and comfort . Are those stem mounts?

Silver 1 downtube shifters on downtube mounts. Nobilette made the adjustable cable/shifter stops.

I used to have Campy Super Record (80's or so?) brakes and levers on my Riv Road. Yes, aesthetically , classic Campy is hard to beat. Yes, I first thought the TRP RRL's were a bit over the top. But when I paired them with the Grand Cru brakes sold by VO, functionally, they were far better than the Campagnolo brakes they replaced. And ergonomically , the levers with those nice roomy gum hoods are super comfortable with the nifty added bonus of a button on the   inboard side of the levers that opens the sidepulls even more than the quick-release on the brake arms does.  Nice if you run fatter tires.  Wonder how that'll work with the Paul centerpulls.  I got the drilled levers with the gum hoods; you might like the plain ones better since they're quite understated.

Laing...you sure have an impressive fleet of Rivendells and impeccable taste. Your pinstriped custom below is gorgeous. What is that colour?  Looks almost caramel coloured.

It is orange with a lot of pearl. I told Joe Bell generally what I wanted and let him make the final color selection. Sparkles in the sun. The cable housings are Campagnolo Pearl from a few years back - closest that I could get to matching the cream headtube. I was ready to start soaking white housings in tea because bright white housings just didn't look right.

I have a couple sets of TRP gum drillium levers and they are fairly comfortable but can give the front of a bike a heavy look. Here they are are another in-progress bike - on Crust Towel Rack bars on my Bombadil. I think the scale of the towel rack bars makes the TRPs look more at home. In the back ground of this picture are four 50 or 50+ year old bicycles - two Gitane Tour de Frances and two Paramount P-15s. I am the original owner of the black Paramount.

Liang ,
Your collection is truly inspirational . I am going to go with non -aero to start with . If non-aero doesn’t work I will go with more ergo options . At least I would know that it didn’t work vs thinking what if I had gotten non-aero. Thanks again for all your inputs .

PS: I loved the description of color on your custom . Very poetic !

Cheers ,
Deepak

James is running 48 mm on his homer build ( see will’s email). So looks like 48mm can be fit . I saw his build in person yesterday when I went to drop off components for my build . Clearance seems to be good enough for me , though with Paul racers (apparently ) need to deflate the whee to take it out . So excited for my build! Ability to run big tires on homer is really a game changer for me . I might just end up with one bike :-) to do almost everything I want  and need .

Here's my Homer from this latest batch. Decided to go with Velocity Quill instead of Brevets, and used my old 10 speed Shimano 105 derailleurs for this build. 34/24 up front and 11-28 in the back makes for some pretty fun riding.

Riv mentioned something different about the paint, more luster or something. I'd have to agree with them on that. The color of this bike is phenomenal.

I am using Tektro R559's and using the 42mm Baby Shoe Pass by Rene Herse. They measure 40mm on these Velocity Quills.

Wow that is a gorgeous bike, I can't take my eyes off it!  One thing though; that rack has internal wire routing in the forward leg, worth changing it up if you want to run lowrider panniers on it at some point :)

The plug I used was too big to fit in the leg unfortunately. I'd have to swap to the spade connector to get it to fit, and granted I am too lazy to deal with all that

Thank you. Here's some more details on the parts list:

Velocity Quill with SON/VO rear hub to RH Baby Shoe Pass (measures 40mm) - went tubeless this time around
Pass & stow rack with a Edelux II mounted on it
10 speed Shimano 105 rd-5700 + fd-5700 + cs-5700 (11-28)
Silver cranks low/low (34/24)
Shimano SL-BS79 10-speed shifters mounted on Paul thumbies
Paul Love Levers
Bosco bars + Nitto Tallux 120mm stem
Tektro R559 brakes
Copper Crane headset mounted bell
Forager Cycles cables cherries

Notes: We barely made the rd-5700 work with the 34/24 chainring, there's only a few mm of clearance at the chain stay as shown in the pic below.

Thanks everyone for inputs to my components and build . Picked up my bike today and it exceeds my expectations ! Here are some quick pics with Grant and James , who built my bike . My initial impression base on around 15 mile ride back home is that it’s sublime ! The set up is just perfect . I might lower the bar a little  above saddle or at saddle height , just for the ride back home I jacked it up to max .
I will post detailed pictures and impressions shortly .

Thanks
Cheers ,
Deepak

Amazing looking ride! Is that a Berthoud saddle? I am debating if I want to give up my Brooks for a natural Berthoud, but don't know many people who ride it.

Thanks everyone!

The color in person is truly amazing . I think it’s much deeper and richer blue than the previous one . My jpeg shot from the camera is highly stylized and does not represent the color accurately . I will post additional pictures later this week .

Calvin,
Yes they are berthoud saddle - aspin model. They worked well with albatross bar on my Atlantis but are great with drop bars on homers! . I think with more upright position you are probably better off with Berthoud’s wider model or brooks b17. I personally could never get along well with brooks b17 ; no matter how I angled the saddle I would either feel like I am sliding off or start hurting .

Cheers ,
Deepak
